Today we will be looking at a number of instruction texts and discuss the features of instructions. Look at the examples of instructions below.Talk about the features.Can you find and highlight ( if you are able to printout the instructions) the following features:
Title
A 'You will need' list
Numbers or bullet points
Bossy verbs e.g Mix, Jump, Join
Instructions written in the order they happen.
Time connectives - First, then next , after that, finally.
Adverbs
Look around the house for examples of instruction texts, which features do they have?

Make adverbs out of the adjectives (describing words )
Write them down e.g. love - lovely
kind -
nice -
joyful -
noise -
bad -
sad -
clever -
quick -
slow -

Wednesday
Re read instructions 'How to Play Mr Wolf 'below with your child. If possible, print out the instructions then cut up into individual instructions and place them face down on table out of order. Pick up one instruction at a time. Ask your child to read each instruction independently. When all instructions showing, discuss which is the first, next etc . Ask your child to put them in order. DO NOT PUT THE PAPER BACK TOGETHER AS A JIGSAW!

Recap yesterday's lesson , talk about what a verb is... an action or doing word. Talk about how an adverb describes how something is done and can often be identified by the -ly suffix at the end of the adverb. Click on link below, Discovery Education login
Talk about the playground game 'What's the Time Mr Wolf?' with your child. Ask them to tell you how it is played. Watch the video together.
Read each instruction in turn, drawing out unfamiliar words to discuss their meaning.

Spelling and Grammar
What is a verb, a verb is an action word. Ask your child to act out the following words to reinforce that a verb is a doing / action word. Write each word on a piece of paper, sound talk as you spell it.
jump, shout, run, smile, balance, whisper
Now we are going to find out about adverbs, repeat the word in a low voice, a high voice, a sad voice, clap the word. ( ad..verb )
An adverb describes how things are happening.
Act out then ask...
How am I shouting?..... ........ ( child to respond ) loudly, noisily, angrily ( write these down)
How am I running?...…………...quickly
How am I whispering?...….....quietly
How am I smiling ?......…...…..happily, cheerfully
How am I balancing?...…..carefully
What do you notice about the adverbs? They all end with the suffix
-ly
