Choose a book from the Oxford Owl selection ( within the book band colour your child is currently reading as homework) ... please find the link on the 'Homework' sub page. Share the book with your child, check that they understand the vocabulary and the events that are happening by questioning them as you read together.
We have been studying the book Harry the Happy Mouse and are writing an innovated version about what Cat, Dog, Owl and Bird did to help others. Watch a You Tube clip of the story.
Model write the final part of the story
e.g. It was getting dark and the moon rose in the sky. Owl met a bird who looked sad. 'Why are you so sad?'asked Owl. I have nowhere to put my eggs' said Bird. So Owl gave Bird some flowers to make a nest. Bird was happy and thanked Owl. 'Don't thank me' said Owl .'just help someone else. ' That night Cat, Dog, Owl and Bird slept happily.
Discuss opportunities to improve what you have written.
Tuesday
We will be doing an independent write today to find out how the children apply the skills they have been learning whilst studying the story 'Harry the Happy Mouse'
Tell your child that Harry was delighted with their work and they have made him very happy
Tell him/her that we could do something nice for Harry. As a surprise we could write about his surprise party as he has enjoyed our writing so much.
Draw a simple plan/ map drawing on the ideas of the children about what happens at the party
What happened…
Animals could say three cheers for Harry
What food did they eat?
What games did they play?
Did they give Harry a present?
How did Harry feel?
Ask your child to write about the party in sentences.

Science Today we will be looking at 5 different trees in the school grounds - oak, sycamore, horse chestnut, holly and willow. We will look at the leaves on the tree, seeds, leaves on the ground then we will closely observe with a magnifying glass, draw and colour each leaf and it's associated seed and label them.
