Hello again,
Lovely to see the photographs of your super work.
Last weekend when we had fabulous sunny weather some of you may have spent time at the river at Edisford Bridge. It made me think of lots of years ago when I was a little girl and all the fun I had in the sun playing in the river.
I used to spend Sundays with my grandma and grandad often having a sleepover on Saturday night. On Sunday morning I had to go to Sunday School but after lunch we would walk down to the river with my fishing net and bucket. As soon as we got there I would put on my paddling shoes but before I went fishing grandad would go to the little shop and buy ice creams with raspberry sauce for us all and then I would spend the rest of the afternoon catching tiddlers and minnows and putting them very carefully in my bucket of river water. At the end of the afternoon I would very gently tip them back into the river. BUT.....one Sunday afternoon I decided that I didn't want to put them back and when grandad said yes I said NO and when grandma said yes I said NO. And then I stamped my feet and then I cried and because my grandad loved me very much he said "oh alright but you must bring them back tomorrow' and of course I said 'yes'. So we walked home with my bucket of fish, very pleased with my catch....
But.....I sneaked down in the night just to say night - night to my fish and to my horror one of the tiny fish was floating on top of the water. I rushed upstairs to grandma and grandpa's bedroom and woke them up . And then I cried and cried and cried and said we must take them back to the river, NOW! And because my grandad loved me , he got up and got ready and hooked my bucket on to the handlebars of his bike and cycled all the way to the river, in the middle of the night to set all the little fish free.
What do you think he said the next time I said I wanted to take a bucket of little fish home with me?
He said "NO, NO, NO."
Do you recognise the little girl in this picture?
Lots of love,
Mrs.Keighley x.
