Summer 1 - Romans

The Romans

Today the children in 34S were Celtic spies. We were transported back in time to the year 43AD. There, minding our own business, tending to our farms we heard the sound of marching. We hid, and watch a legion of Roman soldiers approaching. The children- I mean Celts, spied on the Romans and created detailed illustrations of their armour, weapons and even their train techniques.
we then wrote a letter to the Celtic Chief informing him of our discovery. We were such good spies, we could even offer advise on how best we could retaliate if the Romans dared to attack.

Roman Settlements compared to Celtic settlements

The Romans built Britain's first towns. They built towns all over Britain as centers to administer the people they had conquered. Within 17 years of the invasion, they had several major towns in place. connected by the famous Roman roads.

The Romans liked things to be orderly so streets ran north to south and east to west. The towns had sewers, aqueducts to bring in water, baths, shops and even an open-air-theatre.
