We had amazing fun on our River Ribble walk.
As part of our ‘Rivers’ topic this half term, we revisited the floods around the Ribble Valley in December 2015. The children thought of some great questions to ask Mrs Good’s friend whose house in Whalley was destroyed. We received a video message from Kate who explained how the flood had happened. We learned that water was coming up from the ground, (groundwater) as well as from the burst banks of the river (surface water). Thanking Kate Mayers for helping to bring to life the children’s understanding of flooding.
The children listened carefully to Kate, then wrote up their findings as a report. Super listening and learning 3k!
Here are some photos we received from Kate, showing the impact of the floods in Whalley on Boxing Day 2015:
We looked at natural and human features that impact flood risk such as heavy relentless rain and deforestation.
