Spring 2 - Yum, Yum in my Tum

Easter has been our focus for the last part of the week. Our understanding of the Easter story is fantastic, and we all had lots of very interesting questions about the story. We worked really hard to sequence the story with pictures and writing, and we also worked in our groups to re-tell the Easter story. Have a look at our Easter stories below. We hope you enjoy them.

This afternoon, we celebrated the upcoming Hindu festival of Holi. We enjoyed learning about the different traditions within Holi, and all took part in various activities! During the festival of colour, people throw powder paint at one another and dance in the streets.

Fantastic dancing!

What a fantastic Superhero Day we enjoyed for Comic Relief! Our day was based around our superhero challenges, where we all worked to complete 6 challenges!

Challenge 1: Bee-Bot Superhero Rescue - we worked really hard, and as a team to programme our Bee-Bots so that they could rescue the superhero!
Challenge 2: Superhero Problem Solving - We had to create 8 superheroes, which we are all different. We kept checking back to make sure their outfits weren't the same.
Challenge 3: Superhero Comic Strip - we wrote our own comic strips to tell the story of our superheroes.
Challenge 4: Magic Mirror. We took turns to look into a mirror or the iPad to share our superpowers!

Challenge 5: Superhero Obstacle Challenge - We all took part in a superhero obstacle challenge on the tyre park with Mrs Govender! It's a good job we had super speed!
Challenge 6: Superhero Shields & Wristbands - We used the junk modelling materials to make our own superhero wristbands and shields.

In Maths, we have been using a part-whole model and tens frames to explore number bonds to 10. As a challenge, we were asked if we could record our number bonds on our whiteboards in our own way.

Spring is upon us, and we have been using different media and materials to recreate some of the gorgeous flowers which are growing at the moment. The children found it very amusing to paint their own tulips using FORKS! Our classroom is looking like a Spring Art Gallery!

We have all enjoyed our story, "Jasper's Beanstalk" and we even received a special message from the robin in the story who asked if we could plant our own beanstalk just like Jasper!

Today has been a fantastic day to have all of our RZ family back together. I have had a huge smile on my face today seeing how well you have settled back into our school routine and played together so wonderfully. We enjoyed a Circle Time to talk about how we are feeling and why. We had some Learning Choice time where our classroom was full of smiles, laughter and learning (and lots of noise!) It is so lovely to be back together again.

Following on from our interest in how orange juice is made, we decided to make our own! We used the juicer and then used words like "zingy" and "sweet" to describe the taste of our delicious juice!

"Not bad"

We enjoyed listening to the story of Jack and the Beanstalk! When we came in after lunch, two enormous footprints had appeared in the classroom! We all had lots of different suggestions as to who the footprints might belong to so we made predictions, based on the story, as to why our visitor might have come to our classroom. We then enjoyed describing, ordering and measuring different footprints using special maths vocabulary. Also, we enjoyed starting our very own Jack and the Beanstalk stories by drawing pictures of the beginning, middle and ending.

"Maybe he's not a bad giant after all."

This week, to kickstart our new topic, we are enjoying talking about all the different foods in our fridges and where they come from! We have started by reading a poem and listing some of the foods within the poem, and by the end of the week will have written our own poems!

We have enjoyed learning about Guiseppe Arcimboldo - an artist who created portraits using different objects, such as fruit or flowers! We spoke about the different objects he had used, and discussed how his work made us smile! Linking to our food topic and poem from this morning, we then made our own food face portraits!
