Spring 1 - 54321... Blast Off!

Another half term complete! Whilst so many things have been different, what remains the same is how PROUD I am of you all! You have all adapted to things being different, whether that’s at home or at school. You have all worked your socks off! AND you have all kept a great big smile on all of our faces and filled our hearts with so much pride. You are all amazing RZ! Have a restful half term! From Miss Zak and the RZ team blush

We are really missing our friends who are learning from home! Here is some of the learning we have been doing in class. We love seeing photos of our friends learning from home and it makes us feel like we are all together!
Week Commencing 8th Februrary
Tuesday - After listening to and discussing this week's story "Whatever Next!" we sequenced the story ourselves and used it to help us retell the story. A big box had arrived in our small world area. Inspired by the story, we spent the morning working as a team to make the box into our own rocket! Miss Zak and Miss Smith were amazed with our super cutting and teamwork skills. The children managed to create this spaceship without any adult support! We also had a discussion linked back to yesterday's safety day about how we must not cut the outside if children are on the inside, and that there's only one space for a child to safely fit inside.  Let's hope it doesn't blast off!

Teamwork makes the dream work with our brand new rocket!

Monday - We have enjoyed today's Safety Day by learning about how to keep safe at school, at home and on the internet. We have had lots of discussions about who we speak to when we feel unsafe or worried, and made our own worry boxes to write down or draw our worries when we might not be able to talk about them. We also enjoyed a meeting with the children learning from home to discuss objects which we might find in our homes that are safe or unsafe to touch or eat. We sorted these into a grid and explained why they were either safe or unsafe. To learn about how to stay safe online, we watched some videos and listen to stories which warned us about how we keep safe on the internet and who we should talk to if we felt unsafe. We made worry dolls just like one of the characters in our story.
Week Commencing 25th January
Friday - We have lift off! As part of our learning about space and 3D shape, we enjoyed making our own 3D rockets. We enjoyed using different materials and shapes to create our rockets and Mrs Davy gave our rockets their final touch-ups with some special spray paint. How fantastic do they look! We are all very proud of our rockets!
Tuesday - We are really enjoying our new space station! We have been acting as astronauts, writing questions about space and we even received a special letter from astronauts asking us to show them how we would make good astronauts!

Week Commencing 18th January
Friday - At home and school, we've been learning how to double numbers. We keep reminding ourselves that when we double, we add the same amount. I've seen some terrific doubling at home and at school!
Wednesday - It was a very wet Welly Wednesday! We put on our wellies and waterproof onesies and went puddle splashing! Jumping in these deep puddles brought a huge smile to all our faces!

"Oh my goodness!"

Monday - As part of our learning about Nocturnal Animals, we've enjoyed making nocturnal animal masks!
Week Commencing: 11th January
Friday - We have been exploring the sense of touch. We took our shoes off to explore different textures, and then made and spoke about our own texture collages! Here are some examples of in school and home learner texture collages!
Wednesday - For our Welly Wednesday session today, we made owl nests! We collected different items from outside as mentioned in the Owl Babies story - twigs, leaves and feathers! Then, we drew our own owl family and used our collected items to make a nest. When we had finished, we opened our own Art Gallery and had a walk around the classroom to look at and say kind things about our friends' work!
Week Commencing: 4th January 2021
Thursday/Friday - Just like the children at home, we enjoyed a Winter Walk. We took lots of photos and spoke about what we could see! Then, we listened to the poem "Cold" by Shirley Hughes and made our own poem based on what we saw on our Winter Walk! Here is our poem, some photos of our walk and some photos of the Winter Walk pictures that were uploaded to the home learning email!
Wednesday - After watching a video all about Road Safety, we enjoyed making our own roads and role playing with people and cars.
Tuesday/Wednesday - We have been enjoying the snow and ice in the playground, and putting our wellies on to go outdoors and play! We've discussed how the weather is a lot different to how it was back in Autumn, and we've learned about the days of the week by singing a special song!
