Spring 1

The children took part in a pre-unit assessment to show their prior knowledge on rocks and what they new so far the children answered and observed a range of things from, rocks to soil to fossils to identify and talk about their existing understanding. The children moved around a carousel of activities to show their understanding which was discussed at the end to show off all the amazing facts, the children knew about rocks. 

This lesson the children were asked to bring in a selection of rocks to look at in class. The children had a look at the different types of rocks and began to come up with some adjectives to describe the rocks and what the properties might be. They were also asked to think about how they might sort them and how would this be presented.

 

Year 3 and 4 showed different ways of presenting this information using a Venn diagram, but also chose different categories for each rock to go in.
