R.E

Christianity

Our final term of learning covers Christianity. We will begin with Pentecost.

It was quite tricky to understand Pentecost when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit. The children made mobiles to represent Pentecost.

Today we carefully listened to a story from the Bible - The Good Samaritan. The children listened carefully and were so upset when people walked past and wouldn`t help. They made a fantastic job of representing the story in picture form.

ISLAM

During the next few weeks we will study the rituals and importance of prayer to Muslims.

We discussed routines and rituals and recapped what we knew about the Jewish, Christian and Hindu religions.

What do we do everyday that we always complete in the same order?

Waking up and getting ready for school!

As a class we had lots of discussion about the order that was similar or different to our friends. The children made their own lift the flap book.

We have studied Wudu this week. This is when Muslims wash themselves before prayer. It is a ritual, a routine.

Five Pillars of Islam

We learnt the importance of the number 5 and how there are 5 points on the star of the Islamic symbol.

The children have been busy celebrating Chinese New Year. They have enjoyed making dragon masks and Chinese lanterns.

Today in R.E. we talked about giving and receiving presents. The children shared with their talk partner what their favourite present had been. To make it trickier we then had to mime to others what the present was.

After this we thought about the presents we could make ourselves to give to people and finally a gift which we don`t buy or make. It was wonderful to hear the children talk about hugs, cuddles and when we put the two together and give someone in our family a `huggle`.

Autumn 2

This term we are going to be studying Christianity.  To begin with we will consider different emotions then link this to how we receive and give gifts.

During December our learning will cover the Nativity Story.

Today we read the book Colour Monster. After talking about different emotions the children coloured monsters and wrote about their own feelings.

                            Judaism

To begin our topic we talked about how we celebrate special. We thought hard to remember what we do when there is no Corona Virus about. The children responded with parties, games, balloons, food, hats, magic and dancing.

Today we watched a story about how the Jewish faith started and decorated a special candle called a Menorah.

After a wonderful recap of the lesson about the Menorah we viewed a clip about a Jewish family celebrating Hanukkah. The children were amazing recalling the facts they remembered about King Antiochus, The Maccabees, Menorah and the meaning behind the 8 candles.

Today we learnt about the importance of

Gelt - money given at Hanukkah

Driedel - a game

Laktes - potato pancake (Ask your child why they were fried in oil?)

Shabbat - The Jewish Festival

We had a brilliant discussion today about what happens on the Jewish Sabbath when it begins on a Friday night. The children chose the photographs they wanted to write about then labelled them. The Torah (bible), Challah (bread), Kiddush Cup ( drinking wine/juice), Synagogue (place of worship), Tallit (prayer shawl) and the importance of lighting 2 candles.

The children began to decorate Star of David stain glass windows whilst we listened to Jewish music playing.
