Fiction George and the Dragon by Chris Wormell

The English unit began with Miss Markham playing a sound clip.  The computer was covered so we couldn’t see what was making the sound.  In pairs, we wrote down our ideas:

The book was wrapped up and we were all excited to see what it was!  Some of us were right that the main character was a dragon from the sound clip we listened to.

In pairs, we wrote down what we thought the title of the book is going to be.  Here are some of our thoughts:

Miss Markham read the beginning part of the story.  We created a magic mirror and when we stepped through it we were the dragon! Miss Markham asked us questions and we answered in full sentences.

An example of the questions:

What could you see when you were flying higher than the clouds?

Why would you want to sweep an army away with your monstrous wing?

What else can you burn with your fiery breath?

In talking partners we thought of words to describe the dragon at the beginning part of the story.  Miss Markham was impressed!

We predicted the ending of the story using the SketchBook app by creating an illustration.  We then shared our predictions at the end of the lesson.
