Baking jam tarts for Mr Grinling. We enjoyed tasting them too!

This week our learning has been inspired by the Lighthouse Keepers Lunch. Mr and Mrs Grinling left some mustard sandwiches for us to try. The children used some excellent vocabulary to describe them - hideous, vile, horrible, disgusting! Some of the children enjoyed them. We designed a new lunch for Mr Grinling afterwards.

The children have been enjoying retelling the story of the Snail and the Whale. We made our own story puppets to retell the story šŸ³

The children are enjoying sharing pictures of their holidays with the rest of the class. We have displayed them in our ice-cream parlour to promote lots of discussion. Thank you for sharing them with us!

What a wonderful start to the half term. The children have been so enthusiastic about our new topic ā€˜Happy Holidaysā€™. We started by sharing our holiday news. This was a fantastic kick-start! We have been reading the story of ā€˜What the Ladybird Heard at the Seasideā€™. We have been describing the setting using some fantastic vocabulary.

We have been busy bees šŸ the detailed drawings off bees have blown Miss Lancaster away! We have an extremely talented class of children.

We have been very busy innovating the story of ā€˜The Very Busy Spiderā€™. The spider has landed in a desert, under water and even in our wildlife garden.

We have enjoyed retelling the story of ā€˜The Very Busy Spiderā€™.

Mrs Bowden brought in some snails for us to look after. We have enjoyed retelling the story of ā€˜Snail Trailā€™ using a story map. We innovated the story too! Can the children use the story map below to tell you the story?

Spiders, spiders, spiders! Lots of children showed interest in spiders. They were amazed when a giant spider web arrived in our classroom. We have enjoyed lots of spider themed provision including making our own information books / fact files about them. Can your child tell you their favourite fact about spiders?

All about Owls

The Evil Pea is still up to his tricks! What are we going to do? We canā€™t do anything without the Supertato! We canā€™t do anything without a Superhero!!!! The children have been designing and creating their own ā€˜Super Vegā€™.

Uh oh! What has the Evil Pea done to Miss Lancaster?!!!

Uh oh! The Evil Pea has caused lots of mischief. He had frozen the vegetables, made a mess of the classroom and trapped the vegetables to the table. We have been very busy making traps to try and catch him!!!! The children have been so excited and engaged.

The children loved looking for lower case letters and matching them to the correct capital letter.

Bonfire Night fun! We followed a set of instructions to make edible sparklers, they were delicious. We also created some firework art using different shapes, before thinking about the sounds they make and writing them down.

We've had a spooky start to the half term and have enjoyed plenty of different Halloween-themed activities. We particularly enjoyed listening to the story of Funny Bones and making predictions about the end of the story. We also made our own skeletons using cotton buds. We have been looking closely at our pumpkins, which were kindly donated by Newlands Nursery! It's been lovely to see all the children back and happy to be in the classroom.

We received an email from Mummy Bear! Her porridge recipe has disappeared and without it she canā€™t make porridge for Daddy and Baby Bear. She needs the children's help. We put together a list of ingredients and then the children worked in groups to make the perfect porridge for Mummy Bear. The children are very excited to put together a brand new recipe for her.

Whoā€™s been in our classroom?!! On Monday we found porridge oats that had been left all over the floor. Who could it be? The children got straight to work and worked as an excellent team of detectives. They found golden hair, a necklace with ā€˜Gā€™ on and broken furniture. We used magnifying glasses to close closely at the evidence, took pictures on the iPad and made notes of the evidence we found. We all decided it must have been Goldilocks.

Just part of our innovations of the Three Little Pigs. What fantastic imaginations!

We introduced our topic ā€˜Houses and Homesā€™ this week. We have been building houses using a success criteria that we made together, writing lists, labelling and so much more! What a busy, exciting and fun week we have had!

The children made 'listening ears' ready for a listening walk. We read a story called 'The Listening Walk' before setting off. We listened very carefully to the sounds we could hear in the environment. We drew some of the things we could hear. We heard the wind, cars, children playing and dogs barking. Can you use your listening ears at home? What sounds can you hear in the environment?

What a successful first full day we have had all together! We have been getting to know each other better. We started by playing some parachute games to help us remember some of our new friendsā€™ names! We also talked about our families. The children enjoyed listening to Miss Lancaster talk about her family, especially her niece Poppy. We read the book ā€˜The Great Big Book of Familiesā€™ and discussed different types of families and how they are all special.
