Autumn 2 Irreversible Changes

This half term we are learning about Properties of Materials and Irreversible Changes

Today we looked at the scientist Alice Ball. She discovered a way to make oil soluble in water in order to advance treatment for leprosy

Discussing what variables are and how they can be used to create a fair test

More irreversible changes - did you know you can make 'plastic' from milk?! With supervision, heat 280ml of milk then stir in 1 tbsp of vinegar. It will immediately curdle. Strain off the solids and leave to dry. Come back to see our results!!

Starting to learn about irreversible changes - mixing a liquid and a solid which produced a gas. If you'd like to carry out this experiment with the aid of an adult you will need 60ml of vinegar and 2tsp bicarbonate of soda, with a glove attached tightly over a cup

Testing which cup would be the best for Mrs McLeod's coffee - learning about thermal insulators

Investigating properties of material outside
