Linkages and Levers

This term we have been investigating links and levers and how they are used in our society, through things such as cherry pickers, platform lifts or seesaws. We decided to link the moving parts to our English topic of The Iron Giant. First, we investigated a range of different books which included links and levers as well as popout features linking back to their prior learning in year one.

From this, we created a checklist thinking about who we wanted to create a front cover design/book for. The children used and develop their own ideas from their knowledge of The Iron Giant of how to transfer parts of the story into their work.

We practiced creating a range of linkages and levers to help the children choose which option would be best for their design before they put their own ideas down in their book in preparation for when they create them.
