Autumn 2

We learnt about why animals hibernate. We made leaf piles to help the hedgehogs, frogs and bees that might be hibernating.

Investigating - We know that they used buckets to carry water to try to put out the Great Fire of London. We looked at a rope handle and saw that it was all twisted together and really strong. We have been investigating to see if we can make a handle from strips of paper to lift a heavy bucket. We found out that one piece of paper snapped but if we had 6 pieces, we could lift the bucket. We then tried to lift the bucket with a piece of cotton. We could lift the bucket when we used 5 pieces of cotton together. We investigated if we could make tissue paper stronger by putting pieces together. We had lots of different ideas to test- using water, glue, drying it on the heater or pressing it together under heavy things.
