This half term the children will be drawing portraits.
First the children explored the different tones made by using a selection of B and H pencils. They then looked at portraits drawn by famous artists focusing on the detail of the eyes. The children looked at their own eye and completed a quick draw, drawing the eye in the air, then on the carpet. Then the children were taught how to sketch on eye. They used the different pencils to create tones and shares to sketch their own eye.
The children have been studying portraits by various artists. We discussed how the artist used tone to create light and dark shades. The children used chalk, charcoal, wax crayon and pastels to create light and dark tones.
