Autumn 1

Mystery pots - using our sense of smell to identify mystery smells. The classroom was very smelly when we had finished making our smelly potions! We used all our senses to be scientists at snack time too.

We have been exploring our sense of taste. We taste with our tongues. We tasted mystery drinks. Mrs Govender reassured us they were all safe to drink. We could taste sweet, sour, raspberries, mouthwash, blueberries, oranges. But we had been tricked - they were all lemonade!

Exploring our sense of hearing. We noticed that sounds became louder as they got nearer our ear. We made shakers and compared the different sounds if we put stones, sticks or pom-poms in the shaker. We explored how the sound changed when we put different materials in a cup with a bell. We gave some fantastic explanations about why the bell was louder or quieter.

Exploring our sense of sight. We discovered that it is easier to see big objects further away than it is to see small objects. We enjoyed exploring in he dark den with torches.

We have been exploring using our 5 senses. We matched our senses to the appropriate body parts. We know we can touch and feel things with different parts of our body.

We had fun working as a team and labelling as many different body parts as we could think of.
