Summer 2: Happy Holidays

Week 7

Today, we all brought our favourite toys into school. We talked about why we liked them and the talked about how the toys we like have changed as we have grown.

We had great fun making boats to test floating and sinking. We talked about the materials and shapes that we thought would float.

We have loved sharing our homework books with each other and showing what we did!

Week 6

This week in maths, we have been talking about time. We have been sequencing the days of the week and ordering events.

We have practised our adding skills too using Mrs Dave’s game, Bagatelle.

We have been making our own patterns!

We have made our own days of the week wheel!

Today, after reading ‘The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch,’ we made our very own mustard sandwiches to try! Most of us thought the same as the seagulls in the story and didn’t like them!

Week 5

This week, we have been phonics detectives! We have been using our segmenting skills to work out the missing phonemes.

In maths, we have been counting all the way to 100. Some children even wrote the numbers as far as they could!

This week in Maths, we have been making our own patterns.

Look at our amazing patterns!

We have been thinking about our special places in RE this week. We drew a picture of our special place.

We made models of our special places too.

Week 4

In maths, we have been learning about subtraction. We have been using part whole models to help us.

We have been learning about animals that live under the sea and made our own jellyfish!

We have been making our own fish pictures using loose parts.

Today, we had our very own whale carrying lots of snails around our classroom!

We have been looking at maps and identifying the land and sea. We then talked about the animals that live on land and those that live under water. We made our own maps to show the land/sea.

Week 3

We have continued with our story, ‘The Snail and the Whale’ this week and have made some brilliant whales of our own!

We decorated our own snail shells using loose parts.

In maths, we are learning all about addition. We were adding 2 numbers together and also using our knowledge of bonds to 5 to help us save the whale!

We have been finding numbers to 10 and matching them.

We have been practising counting all the way to 100! We have used this song to help us!

The Big Numbers Song

Week 2

In maths, we have been been learning about sharing. We shared amounts equally.

Inspired by the pictures in our story of the week, ‘The Snail and the Whale’, we have been making our very own volcanoes and icebergs!

We have been using our reading fingers to read sentences in phonics. We did a great job of building, blending, smooth reading.

We had a yummy ice cream shop in the outdoor classroom!

Apple class enjoyed a game of dominoes with Mrs Davy! They had to look carefully and tried to subitise the amount, rather than count.

In PSHE, we have been learning about parts of our bodies. We talked about our private parts and learnt about the NSPCC ‘PANTS’ rule. We even design our own pants!

Talk PANTS with Pantosaurus and his PANTS song #TalkPANTS

Meet Pantosaurus - our pant-wearing Dino! He wants every child to stay safe and strong, just like him, and he's on a mission to share an important message.

We have been practising writing words all by ourselves!

Week 1

In maths, we have been learning about 2d shapes and we made our own shape pictures. We talked about the properties of the shapes and how we could identity them.

We have also been using 3D shapes to make models, talking about which shapes are the easiest to build with. We used the language of curved and flat to describe the faces.

We have been playing a game of ‘I Spy’ and looking for objects we can see in the box. We then wrote a list!

We have been very excited to see that our caterpillars have turned into chrysalis over the half term break! We can’t wait for them to be butterflies!

We enjoyed cooking our very own pizzas today with Mrs Hailwood.

We have been creating patterns and also looking carefully at a variety of shells. We even thought we could hear the sea!
