Summer 2

Toys

In this unit we will compare our toys today to those from the past. We make links to our science topic materials to identify the materials the tots are made from and ask if the materials are still used today to make the same toys.

We considered if boys and girls played with the same toys during the Victorian period. We discovered that during this period toys were often just for boys or just for girls.

We asked what toys would children have played with during the Victorian period.

We interviewed Mrs Brooks-Pendlebury to find out about what toys she played with 70 years ago. We then compared them to toys today. We were lucky enough to hold and touch real artefacts and explore how different materials were used to make toys in the past.

A visitor from Blackburn Museum came to show us some toys from the past.

We made peg dolls and a thaumatrope like poor children would have made and played with in the past.
