Spring 2 Weather Investigations

We talked about the different kinds of weather there are as an introduction to our science topic for this half term. We looked at an umbrella then in pairs selected words from a list of properties that a material would need to be a suitable material for an umbrella. We used these words to complete a chart then tested five different materials ( plastic, foil, tissue, cardboard, cloth) to find the most suitable for an umbrella.

We made windsocks to help us find the windiest place in Pendle School. We found out that it is near the front entrance of the school, the gusts of wind made the windsocks fly the highest. Outside 2/1M and 1D classrooms the windsocks hardly moved at all.

We went outside on a sunny day to observe shadows. We worked in pairs drawing around each others shadows then lay down in the chalk outlines. We noticed that the shadow drawings were taller than us!
