Week 6
Baby bear arrived in our classroom this week! He brought a box, a colander and a pair of wellies! He also brought the story book ‘Whatever Next!’ We shared the story and then talked about what happens in the story, using a story map to retell it to our partners.
In maths this week, we are looking for patterns. We started the week by looking for things that match or are the same. We played some matching games on the board to test our memory too!
Inspired by Baby Bear from the story ‘Whatever Next!’ we have been making our very own rockets to blast off to space!
We made our very own junk modelling rockets! We thought carefully about the shape and size of the objects we used and also how we joined them together. We used a range of different materials to decorate them too!
Week 5
Today, an alien visited our classroom and left underpants scattered all around our classroom!! We also found the book ‘Aliens love underpants’ so we read the book together and then talked about the different aliens in the book. Some of us then drew our very own aliens!
Today, we baked melting moments! The children did a great job making them and we all enjoyed sharing them!
In maths, we have been learning about measurement. We made play dough worms that are long/longer, short/shorter, wide/wider and narrow/narrower.
It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Stay and Play this morning! Apple class loved showing the parents/carers our classroom and how we learn!
Week 4
This week, we have been to the library to choose our own books! We talked about how the library is organised and about the different sections. We introduced the words ‘fiction’ and ‘non fiction’. We shared the reasons of why we chose our books, such as ‘It is about Chinese New Year and we have been learning about that,’ or ‘It’s about the seaside and I love the seaside.’
Some children continued their learning all about Lunar New Year today and created their own dragon dances using their dragon puppets!
We have been making lanterns to decorate our classroom!
In maths, we have been using a part-whole model to subtract numbers to 10.
We have made our own dragon and been around school performing our dragon dances today!
Week 3
This week, we got some special jotter books which we can use to write or draw in whenever we like! It has been wonderful to see so many children engaging in writing and mark making!
We have been learning all about Lunar New Year. We made our own dragons and practised moving them to the music! 🐉
We did our very own dragon dance! We learnt a song all about New Year and sang it as we paraded. Some children playing musical instruments and we moved to the beat.
This year is the year of the snake, so we made our very own spiral snakes whilst practising our cutting skills! 🐍
Week 2
We have started the week continuing looking at signs of winter! We have made our own snowflake pictures, thinking carefully about the shapes.
In maths, we have been talking about ‘parts’ and ‘whole’. We looked at how we could make the number 3 and 4 on the tens frames and told our partners how we have made it, such as ‘Two red counters and 1 blue counter makes 3 altogether.’
We have made our very owl owl pictures, using a variety of materials. We talked about the shapes we needed to draw and the different materials we could use such as paint, feather, tissue paper and felt. Everyone worked so hard and the finished pictures were amazing!
Week 1
Our topic has started by looking at the change in season to Winter and it has definitely been a week of wintery weather! The children loved creating some wintery patterns, as well as playing outside in the snow!
We have been recognising number to 10 and colouring the number in the correct colour!
We explored what happened to the ice when it was inside. We used words to describe such as melting, frozen, cold and slippery. We even painted the ice with the watercolour paints.
We have been counting a set amount in maths this week, using the penguins! We had to turn over a card and then count out that many carefully onto the iceberg. We then talked about whether our number was fewer or more than our partners.
We have loved watching the snow fall through the window! We talked about what the snow looked like and how it would feel too! It was great to hear some of the children using of vocab ninja words, such as chilly and freezing.
