We thought about creatures which live in various habitats. We considered how they are adapted to survive there.
We explored the difference between things that are alive, were once alive and things that have never been alive.
Spring 2
We identified and ordered the stages of a plant’s life cycle.
Closely observing seeds and bulbs.
We planted seeds. We are doing a comparative test. We are going to conduct test A, B and C. In test A we will deprive the seed of water, in test B we will deprive the seed of light and finally in test C we will deprive the seed of warmth.
Spring 1
An investigation to find out which paper fold makes the strongest bridge.
An investigation to test which material is the stretchiest.
An investigation into whether objects could be stretched, twisted, bent or squashed.
Stretching, twisting, bending and squashing Play-Doh.
We listened to the Smartest Giant in Town by Julia Donaldson. We thought about the items of clothing the giant gave away and why they were suitable for the job. For example why was the leather shoe a good home for the mice or why was the cotton shirt a great sail for a boat?
Exploring the school grounds to see what objects are made from and discussing reasons why.
We sorted objects according to the material or materials they are made from.
Autumn 2
We predicted what would happen when we mixed different sugars with water. We know sugar dissolves and can be hidden in foods when we can’t see it.
We observed changes in our bodies when we exercise. We know exercise is important to keep us healthy.

An investigation into the importance of good hand hygiene. The pepper represented the ‘germs’ and the water surface our skin. When we added soap to our finger the pepper moved away, proving that soap is incredibly important to achieve clean hands.
