Outdoor Explorers

We have been acting out the story ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ We had great fun taking on the different roles whilst we retold the story together.

We have been making our name from things in nature 🌿πŸͺ΅πŸƒ

We read the book ‘Love our earth’ and listened to the song ‘Wonderful World’ before going outside to find all of the wonderful things around us!

We talked about how we can look after the birds in our local area and how we can encourage more birds to come to visit us, so made our very own bird feeders.

We went outside to spot and listen for birds in our wildlife garden.we talked about the different features the birds have to help us identify them, such as a red breast, or a blue head. We talked about how birds build nests and we pretended to be birds! We flew around gathering materials to build our very own nest.

After reading the story of Owl Babies, we went outside to make our own owl out of natural materials. We talked about the different parts of the owl and thought carefully about the materials we used.

During World Nursery Rhyme week, we were singing the nursery rhyme ‘Incy Wincy Spider.’ We then went on a spider and bug hunt in our wildlife garden. We then made our own spiders using natural materials. We talked about how many legs a spider has and carefully counted to check our spider had 8 legs!

This week, we thought about bonfire night during our Outdoor Explorer session. We made our own bonfire, each collecting 5 sticks as this was our number of the week this week! We then sang bonfire songs and even ate the edible sparklers we had made around our bonfire.

In our outdoor explorers lesson, we made our very own magic wands! We chose our sticks very carefully, thinking about the size and shape. We then used lots of different colours of wool to decorate our wands by wrapping it around. We even entwined some leaves into our wands too. I wonder what spells our wands will cast!? πŸͺ„ ✨
