Autumn 2: Super Powers!

Week 8

We have started this week with Christmas jumper day! We all looked so lovely in our Christmas jumpers. We also had our Christmas lunch today 😀

In Maths, we have been learning all about the number 10. We made some baubles and Christmas trees with 10 items on them, and even practised writing the numbers 6-10.

Week 7

This week the class have performed their Nativity! It’s been fabulous to see them all sing their little hearts out and they made us all very proud.

Week 6

This week, the Christmas celebrations have begun! We read the story ‘The Snowman’ and made our own snowman pictures using chalk and paint. We talked about how the chalk can be smudged with our fingers and explored this effect.

We have been making amounts with the play dough and displaying them on a tens frame. This was practising our fine motor skills too, as we had to pinch and roll the dough.

We have had lots of Christmas themed provision set up in our classroom to explore!

Today we have our walk to the postbox to post our letters to Santa! We talked about what a letter needs: an address and a stamp! We looked at a variety of different stamps and talked about which was our favourite. We then talked about what happens to our letters once we post them in the post box!

Week 5

We have started the week by continuing our learning about Supertato! We made our very own Supertato’s, thinking carefully about the shapes, sizes and colours we needed.

We have been solving superhero puzzles and putting the pieces in the correct order!

We have been counting amounts to 8, ensuring we are counting 1 object at a time.

We have been thinking about ways to keep ourselves healthy. We talked about eating and drinking healthy choices, exercise, washing ourselves to keep clean and sleeping. We looked at how easily glitter ‘germs’ can spread between us and onto our food. We know we can wash our hands to get rid of the germs.

Superhero day!

We had a great time on superhero day! We made superhero masks, completed a superhero obstacle course and even tried to trap the evil pea!

Week 4

Today, we had an unexpected visitor into our classroom! The visitor made such a mess! We looked around the classroom for clues to find out who it could be. We saw green glitter which led us to think it could maybe be a witch, Fred the Frog, Trixie the Pixie from Numberland or Evil Pea! I wonder who it will turn out to be?

We have been exploring number 7. We had so many things we wanted to add to plot number 7 in number land!

During phonics, we played the game ‘Popcorn Pop’. We sang ‘Pop, pop, popcorn, pop, pop, pop, popcorn, stop!’ Then we picked a word out and tried to build it, blend it, smooth word read it. The children had great fun continuing playing after the lesson!

We have been practising zipping up our coats over the last few days. We have become more independent and some of us have even been helping our friends!

Today, our mystery guest created some chaos again in our classroom! We were left some clues to find out who it was……the Evil Pea! We enjoyed exploring the ice and talked about what was happening and how it was changing. We also used the pipette from our science experiment last week to drop warm water onto the ice, as we thought that would melt it quicker!

Week 3

It has been such a busy week this week, with Interfaith week, Odd socks day, Remembrance day, Children in Need and World Nursery Rhyme week to name just a few!

We had great fun decorating our own spotty biscuits this week! We counted our ‘spots’ carefully to make sure we had the number of the week- 6!

In Science this week, we carried out a simple experiment and talked about the reaction we saw. We had to observe carefully and also use specific equipment such as a pipette! Miss Zak also came down to our class to present some special certificates for children who took part in the Science Selfie competition!

On Friday, we celebrated Children in Need Day! We all looked amazing in our colourful clothes and enjoyed making our own Pudsey masks. We talked about how Children in Need supports children around the UK and talked about our needs and wants. We also talked about how we could keep ourselves happy and healthy and joined in some exercise with Joe Wicks!

Week 2

We have all been very excited to share our experiences of Bonfire night this week. We have been making our own firework pictures using chalks, mark making in glitter and even practising our cutting skills.

We did some firework dancing this week, dancing along to different songs using the ribbons. We talked about how the music made us feel, if it was fast or slow and tried to change the way we used the ribbon to reflect this.

This week in music, we explored the celebration of Hanukkah. We listened to some music and talked about the instruments we could hear. We then had a go with 3 traditional Jewish instruments- a drum, a tambourine and cymbals. We had a go at using these and talked about the sounds they make. We then did some dancing to along with the music!

On Friday, we learnt all about Remembrance Day and what this means. We made some fanatic poppy pictures using a range of media, such as painting, collage and even using our ICT skills!

Week 1

In Maths, we have been making towers of 4. We counted the cubes carefully and checked our partners to see if there were 4. We then compared our towers and talked about how they were made up, e.g. 3 blue and 1 yellow which makes 4 altogether.

On Friday, we spent the day learning all about Diwali! We read the story ‘The Little Glow’ and talked about how light is important in so many celebrations. We learnt all about how Diwali is celebrated and compared Diwali to other celebrations we know about such as Christmas and Eid.
We had great such creating our own clay diva lamps, rangoli and mehndi patterns and listening to some traditional music.

On Thursday, we had a visit from Skipping John! The skipping coach came to teach us how to skip and we all had great fun practising! It was really tricky, so we were so impressed at the perseverance and determination the children showed.

In Art, we have been creating some spooky Halloween pictures of skeletons and cauldrons, using different media. We even practised writing our name on our artwork so that we know it’s ours!

This week, we have been practising our gross motor skills in the outdoor classroom. We worked in teams and practised controlling the ball all around the obstacle course.

We’ve had great fun exploring the pumpkins 🎃 We used spoons, scoops and even our hands to carve out the insides of our pumpkins. Whilst doing this, we used our senses and talked about how it smelt, felt and looked. The children used some great words such as slimy, squishy and yucky!

It’s been a great first day back today! The children have loved exploring the Autumn and Halloween themed provision, including mark making on pumpkins, counting spiders and cutting carefully along the spiders webs!
