Autumn 1

We have been busy investigating... We wanted to find out whether children with the biggest feet have the biggest hands! First, we put on our 'prediction hats' and came up with some really good explanations for the question.

Some children thought we could measure by standing hand to hand and foot to foot. We discovered this was in fact quite tricky. One child thought to ask children if they had the biggest foot/hand, but we soon realised this was even trickier!

So, we decided to use some of the measurement skills we have been learning with Mrs. Hind. We used multilink cubes to accurately measure our hands and feet (after drawing around them!) We made sure that the cubes had no gaps between them. Miss DeRosa did a cheeky check of our measurements to ensure accuracy, but we didn't need her to. Take a look through our photographs to see what we found out.

Today in Science with Mrs Hind we played a game matching baby animals to their parents and learnt that a cub could belong to any of the following animals - bear, lion, tiger, fox.

Next we went on to explore human babies and school children like us.

What can babies do? The children thought of lots of answers and shared them with their partners. It was also wonderful to listen to the children with younger siblings talking about their own experiences.

What can we do?

Responses were running, jumping, talking, eating, getting dressed, writing, reading playing football and skipping.

Finally we wrote sentences to explain what both babies and children can do - laf (laugh), sleep, crigh (cry) eet (eat) and drink.

Our first Science topic is - `Animals, Survival and Growth`.

Lesson Number 1 is thinking all about what humans need to survive and be healthy.

Here are our ideas about what our bodies need to survive.
