Autumn 1

We have been thinking about mice and generating questions. We discussed what we would like to know about mice and the children wrote down their questions.

The children have been learning about question sentences. They went outside and drew a question mark and a full stop. The children had to decide if my sentence was a question and needed a question mark or a statement and needed a full stop.

The children have been listening to the poem Hickory Dickory Dock. We discussed the rhyming string - dock, clock and tock. Then the children thought of their own rhyming strings, they created a mouse and added their rhyming string.

The children have been learning about the pronoun I. We went outside to identify the capital letter I and the lowercase letter i.

The children have been busy designing their front cover for their story. They needed to add a title, an illustration and the author.

The children had to rearrange the words to make a sentence and add a full stop at the end.

The children have enjoyed retelling part of the story 'Harry the Happy Mouse'.

During the night a message had been left on our white board but they had forgotten to leave a space between each word. The children have been word space detectives to solve the sentence mystery.

The children went outside and had a selection of lowercase letters to match to the correct capital letter.

The children worked in groups to find a word and create a sentence.

The children enjoyed creating a map of Harry the happy mouse's walk.

We went outside on a capital letter hunt. The children had to find the capital letters and write them on their whiteboards.

On Monday morning a small box arrived in our classroom. The children were provided with the following clues to predict what was in the box.

I can  see two beady eye.

I can see two round ears.

I can  see a fury body.

I can hear a squeaking sound.

What was in the box?
