ART at Pendle Primary School

Subject Leader   KS2 Karen Wardle (KS2) Jane Govender (EYFS/KS1)

At Pendle School we aim to give children a wide variety of creative experiences.

We follow the KAPOW scheme of work. Art is taught  as a series of fortnightly lessons which often link to the main cross-curricular topic. Every child will experience the equivalent of three half terms of Art lessons each year ( the remaining three half terms studying Design and Technology) and during this time will cover drawing and painting skills and sculpture or textiles.

We aim to inspire the children by selecting  interesting ways to teach a particular art skill and including a range of artists from Turner to Banksy to Georgia O`Keefe!

Wherever possible we use local artists, like Clare Bigger, to support our learning and visit local galleries , exhibitions and sculpture parks. We have also invited parents to  exhibitions of our art work and held Sculpture exhibitions in the school hall.

Creative club-recent projects have seen classroom chairs decorated with oil paints which were displayed in local shops to create a `chair Hunt`. Children have used I-pads to create T-shirt designs and a fashion show showcased the T-shirts to parents. I-pads have been used to explore the Digital Art World and a group of our talented artists visited The Apple store in Manchester to explore the Sketch Book painting app. In 2026 we are planning an art exhibition in Clitheroe, in collaboration with two other local primary schools.

We display as much of our art work as we can to celebrate the children's creativity and also share work on our class art pages on the school website.
