WB 6.7.26

This week in Year 5 and 6 has been full of exciting opportunities and achievements. Our Year 6 children have absolutely smashed their Bikeability course, with all the instructors commenting on how well they had done and how confidently they rode. The children who remained in school have been busy studying A Midsummer Night’s Dream, enjoying the chance to act out different scenes and bring Shakespeare’s characters to life. Meanwhile, Year 5 visited Bowland to make some scrumptious scones, developing their baking skills and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Looking ahead, excitement is building as Year 6 prepare to take to the stage next week for their performances of The Bongo Bandits – we can't wait to see all of their hard work come together!

Transition Event

Several local primary schools attended an event we hosted at Clitheroe Cricket Pitch. The event was a huge success – the children loved meeting potential new friends.

This week in Year 5 and 6 has been full of resilience and creativity, as the children have bravely navigated the heatwave and coped extremely well with the challenging conditions. In History, the children have been learning about ancient Baghdad, exploring what made it such a wealthy and influential city. In Geography, they stepped into the role of town planners, designing and pitching their own ideas for where and what types of renewable energy sources could be installed in a town, showing great teamwork and innovation. Finally, in DT, our Year 6 children have begun creating their memory elephants using their old school jumpers, marking the start of a special and meaningful project as they prepare for the end of their primary school journey.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Year 5 Work Showcase. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing a selection of the activities they have taken part in this year.

This week in Year 6 has been truly unforgettable, as the children had an amazing time at Winmarleigh Hall (PGL). They took part in a wide range of exciting activities, including raft building, abseiling, archery tag, the giant swing and Jacob’s Ladder, showing great teamwork, courage and determination throughout. The children represented the school excellently, and all of the staff were incredibly impressed with their behaviour, attitude and willingness to try new challenges. A particular highlight for many was the silent disco on the final night, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed and made for a fantastic end to a brilliant residential experience.

In Geography, we have been exploring energy use in the UK and developing our map skills, with a particular focus on using six-figure grid references to locate important energy-related symbols on an OS map. In English, our Year 5 children have been honing their debating skills, planning and confidently delivering their own debates on a range of interesting topics, showing great speaking and listening skills. Finally, the Year 6 children have been busy getting everything ready for their upcoming residential on Sunday, building excitement and showing excellent responsibility as they prepare for this special experience.

This week in UKS2 has been full of exciting learning experiences. In History, we have been exploring the ancient city of Baghdad, learning about its unique circular design, the famous House of Wisdom, and its important location along the Silk Road. In Art, the children completed their beautiful henna patterns using real henna, and the results look fantastic. Meanwhile, our Year 6 children have been busy rehearsing their lines and practising their parts for their upcoming end-of-year show, showing great enthusiasm and dedication.
