    Some of the words in this unit will be familiar to the children, and most will present a 
    challenge in terms of spelling. The focus is therefore on what the words have in common: their 
    sound (/shus/), their word class (adjectives) and the -ious part of the ending. The relevant 
    nouns are introduced to provide clues as to the ‘c’ or ‘t’ in the initial /sh/ sound of the ending 
    and to extend vocabulary.
