This week has been full of exciting learning and reflection across different subjects!
Science
Our focus has been on irreversible changes. The children explored how certain changes in materials cannot be reversed, such as burning, rusting, and cooking. To demonstrate their understanding, they created informative posters showcasing examples and explanations of irreversible changes. Their creativity and scientific thinking really shone through!
Religious Education (RE)
In RE, we have been exploring Hindu beliefs about life after death, particularly the concept of Ashramas – the four stages of life in Hindu tradition. The children engaged in thoughtful discussions about how these stages influence beliefs and practices, showing great curiosity and respect for different worldviews.
Assessment Week
It has also been assessment week, and we are incredibly proud of the effort and resilience the children have shown. They approached each task with determination and demonstrated reflective thinking about their learning. This is an important skill that helps them grow as independent learners.

History – Discovering Our Local Past
This week, we took a fascinating trip to Clitheroe Library! The children became real historians, exploring census records, old maps, photographs, and Victorian artefacts to uncover how our local area has changed over time. They were amazed to see how streets, jobs, and even family life looked in the past. Ask your child what surprised them most about Victorian life—you might hear some interesting facts!
Art – Festive Creativity
Christmas spirit is in full swing! In art, the children designed Christmas cards using a clever layering technique to create striking silhouette effects. This activity encouraged creativity and precision, and the results are stunning. These cards will make wonderful keepsakes—perfect for spreading festive cheer at home!Maths – Cracking the Code with Algebra
In maths, we tackled algebra—a big step forward! The children learned how letters can represent numbers and practiced solving equations. It was like solving puzzles, and they showed fantastic perseverance. Why not challenge them to explain an equation to you?

π RE – Exploring Hindu Beliefs
This week, we delved into Hindu ideas about life after death. The children were fascinated by the concept of reincarnation and how karma influences future lives. Ask your child: What does “karma” mean in Hinduism? You might be surprised by their thoughtful answers
PE-Hip Hop dance
We had an exciting dance session on Wednesday, where the children learnt some new dance moves in the style of Hip-Hop. In groups, the children then created their own routine and some groups even performed for the rest of the class. We're all looking forward to learning some more Hip-Hop moves next week.
π¨ Art – Self-Portraits with Personality
In Art, we explored what makes a self-portrait special. The children noticed details like facial proportions and expressions that tell a story about the artist.

Anti-Bullying Week
This week, we celebrated Anti-Bullying Week with the theme of Odd Socks Day. Each class got creative by turning odd socks into colorful bunting, now proudly displayed in the hall. It’s a cheerful reminder that our differences make us unique and that kindness matters every day.
Inter-Faith Week
To mark Inter-Faith Week, pupils designed paving slabs inspired by themes of unity and respect. Each class will have one winning design, which will be painted and placed in our wildlife garden—a lasting symbol of harmony and diversity in our school community.
English Focus
In English, students explored how language has evolved by comparing classical fiction with more modern writing. They looked closely at the flying car scenes in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (a classic) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (a modern text). Pupils examined differences in sentence structure, vocabulary, and tone, and discussed how these choices shape the reader’s experience of adventure and magic.

What a fantastic week we've had in Sycamore Class! The children have been immersed in a rich variety of learning experiences that have sparked imagination, deepened understanding, and showcased their brilliant behaviour and enthusiasm.
π Exploring Our Class Novel – Tom’s Midnight Garden
This week, we started our new class novel, Tom’s Midnight Garden. The children stepped into the shoes of the characters, writing thoughtful and imaginative postcards as if they were part of the story. We also used the vivid descriptions in the book to draw detailed plans of the mysterious garden – a wonderful way to combine literacy and art!
πΊ Remembrance Day Reflections
In preparation for Remembrance Day the children created beautiful poppies and explored the significance of this important occasion through guided reading. Their discussions showed great empathy and understanding, and their artwork was both respectful and creative.
πΊοΈ Geography Fieldwork in Clitheroe Town Centre
We took our learning out into the community this week with a geography fieldwork trip to Clitheroe town centre. The children conducted questionnaires about leisure facilities in our local area, engaging confidently and politely with members of the public. Their manners and behaviour were exemplary – they were a real credit to the school!
