This week in Year 5 and 6, we have continued our fantastic learning about World War II, with a particular focus on the Battle of Britain. The children listened to first-hand accounts from people who experienced the battle, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of what life was like during this important period in history. In RE, we explored a range of fables and discussed the different messages and morals they teach us, encouraging thoughtful discussion and reflection. Meanwhile, in Science, the children have been learning about different life cycles, comparing how living things grow and change throughout their lives. It has been another busy and engaging week, with the children showing enthusiasm and curiosity across all areas of the curriculum.

This week in Year 5 and 6 has been full of exciting learning opportunities. On Monday, all of the children attended a fantastic LEGO STEM workshop, where they worked collaboratively in teams and demonstrated excellent problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills. In Geography, we have begun our new topic on population, exploring why populations change over time and the factors that can influence these changes. In Maths, the children have continued to fly through place value, building their confidence and understanding of larger numbers. We have been incredibly impressed with their effort and enthusiasm throughout the week. Next week, we will be moving on to calculations, where the children will be applying their place value knowledge to a range of mathematical methods and challenges.

This week in Year 5 and 6 has got off to a fantastic start, with all of the children settling really well into their new classes. We have spent time getting to know one another while also making an excellent start to our learning. In English and Guided Reading, we have begun reading Goodnight Mr Tom and have explored the contrasting backgrounds and emotions of the two main characters at the beginning of the story. In Art, the children have started investigating gestural marks, using pencils and wax crayons to create a range of expressive movements and effects. Finally, in PE, we have launched our new unit on orienteering, where the children have begun developing their navigation and teamwork skills. It has been a brilliant first week, and we are looking forward to the exciting learning still to come this term.
