Our new topic this term is called “Under the Sea.”
The children will dive into an exciting underwater adventure through a range of engaging stories and activities. Below are some of the texts we may be using to inspire our learning:

Through our Geography learning, the children will explore the coast, learning about different geographical features including land and water. We will also discuss how and why people visit different places for different reasons, including seaside locations.
In Science, we will investigate materials and our senses, helping the children understand the world around them through hands-on exploration.
In Design and Technology (DT), we will be exploring food. The children will take part in making “A Feast for a Pirate,” where they will prepare and enjoy some pirate-themed food.
To celebrate our topic, children are invited to dress up as a pirate on Friday 3rd July. We are looking forward to a fun-filled day of pirate activities!
We have been practising our writing skills and building simple sentences using starters such as “I can…” and “It is…”. It has been wonderful to see the children using a growing range of vocabulary, remembering finger spaces, and including full stops in their work.
This week, we have been practising our number bonds to 5 to support quick recall. We explored different ways to make 5, such as 4 + 1 and 3 + 1 + 1, and enjoyed thinking of our own combinations. We also used other numbers and investigated different ways to make them, helping to build our confidence and understanding of number.
It’s been lovely to see all the wonderful work the children have been completing at home. They really enjoy sharing their learning with their friends and feel so proud of what they have achieved! 😊
We had a fantastic time for Welly Wednesday, exploring our wildlife garden! The children enjoyed a range of lovely activities, including baking birthday cakes, creating a magical flower fairy garden, and mixing their own potions. There was lots of excitement during our minibeast hunt too! It’s always wonderful to explore and learn in nature together 🌿
We’ve been getting into the World Cup spirit by scoring our very own goals! The children had lots of fun developing their fine motor skills by flicking pom poms, while also practising their counting as we kept track of the scores. âš½
This week we celebrated World Ocean Day as part of our Under the Sea topic. We learnt about why our oceans are important, explored some of the amazing animals that live in them, and discussed how we can help protect and care for our oceans. The children enjoyed getting creative by making their own sea creatures, including octopuses, which supported their fine motor skills and imaginative play.
This week the children have been busy preparing for our upcoming art exhibition by creating their own magical rings. They explored a range of techniques, including threading beads onto pipe cleaners to make sparkling rings, cutting and decorating cardboard for bold, colourful designs, and working collaboratively to create a group ring using decorated pebbles. These activities supported creativity, fine motor development, and teamwork, while helping bring their imaginative ideas to life.
In Science this term, we have been exploring changes. We began by describing different materials, using words such as soft, hard, bumpy and smooth. We then read the story of The Gingerbread Man and looked closely at a real gingerbread man, talking about its properties. Just like in the story, we placed the gingerbread man in water and observed what happened. The children noticed lots of changes, describing it as becoming softer, mushy and darker.
In PE this week, the children began an exciting new unit based on Commotion in the Ocean! We focused on balancing using smaller parts of our bodies and exploring different types of rolls. The children had great fun trying a crab balance and practised creating strong, stable shapes with their bodies.
In Maths this week, the children have been learning all about 2D and 3D shapes. They had lots of fun creating their own shape pictures and enjoyed talking about the different shapes they used!
The children have been busy creating their own recounts about their holidays. It has been lovely to see so much writing, with everyone excited to share their adventures!
