Geography πΊοΈβ‘
This week in Geography, the children became urban planners and worked in pairs to design the energy production for a new housing estate. They carefully considered the location of the estate, compared different energy sources and selected the most suitable option, explaining their choices using evidence about efficiency, sustainability and environmental impact.

History ποΈ
In History, we compared Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age with Anglo-Saxon Britain. The children researched and discussed key aspects of daily life, including water and sanitation, education and learning, trade and goods, buildings and religion. They were fascinated by the differences and similarities between these two societies.

English π
We thoroughly enjoyed visiting author Dan Worsley at Ribblesdale. His engaging storytelling captivated the children from start to finish, inspiring their imaginations and enthusiasm for reading and writing. It was a memorable experience that left everyone eager to explore more books and stories.

Science
In science, we investigated how surface area impacts the time it takes for an object to fall. We discovered that a rock with a large surface area fell slower than a piece of paper with a smaller surface area.

PE ππβοΈ
In PE, the children enjoyed developing their skills in cricket and rounders. They practised throwing, catching, batting and fielding techniques, while also learning the importance of teamwork, communication and good sportsmanship. The children showed great enthusiasm and demonstrated increasing confidence during matches and team activities.

W.B. 15.06.2026
The children thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Dr Pop during our NRG workshop. They learnt all about energy and simple ways to save it at home, such as turning off electrical items, taking shorter showers and keeping the fridge door closed. The session inspired them to make their own pledges to save energy and help protect the environment.

Geography
The children explored renewable energy and discovered which types are most common across the UK. They used maps and data to understand why different regions use sources such as wind, hydro and solar power, developing their awareness of sustainability and the environment.

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend the Year 5 Work Showcase. The children thoroughly enjoyed sharing a selection of the activities they have taken part in this year.

Art
The children thoroughly enjoyed creating their own crowns and tiaras using metal wire, beads and pipe cleaners. Each piece is wonderfully unique and reflects their creativity.
Maths
The children have been learning how to use protractors to measure and draw a range of angles with increasing accuracy.
History ποΈ
In History, we learnt about Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age. The children explored why Baghdad became a thriving and advanced city, learning about its important trade routes, which brought people, ideas and goods from across the world. They investigated the famous House of Wisdom, where scholars studied mathematics, science and medicine, and discovered how Baghdad's unique circular city design helped it become a busy centre of learning and trade. The children were fascinated by how advanced and vibrant life was in Baghdad compared to other parts of the world at the time.
