Here is an overview of our learning this half-term.

English -Exploring Traction Man, before writing our own fantasy story featuring our own robot as the central character.
Maths Units -  Addition and Subtraction, Measurement (Capacity & Volume), Fractions, Geometry (Position and Direction, Shape), Time, Multiplication and Division
Science –Revisiting this year's learning through a variety of working scientifically investigations. We will build on on earlier working scientifically skills, including observing with the senses, planning and ordering tests, measuring, recording results and presenting findings in block graphs.
PE: Athletics, including jumping, throwing, running and catching.
RE - Judaism: We will learn about the Jewish Sabbath (Shabbat), exploring why it is holy and how special days can bring families together and strengthen
PRSHE - Growing and Changing: How am I changing as I grow?
Music - Investigating musical structure by listening to, analysing and performing a song based on a well-known myth.
Art - Finishing details for our art project!
DT - Preparing Food: We will be exploring, planning and preparing a vegetable salad.

The following subjects continue over Summer 1 and Summer 2:

History - What is a monarch? Understanding the role of a monarch and how it has changed over time; identifying the purpose, structure and evolution of castles.
Geography - What can you see at the coast? Children will learn to locate and describe the seas, oceans and coasts of the UK using maps and compass directions. They will identify physical and human coastal features and how people use them.

    Week 1 - Owl Board

In English, we completed a treasure hunt to reveal our English learning this half-term... fantasy stories linked to Robots! The children worked eagerly to put the pieces on the correct tables, piece them together and then write words to describe the robot they had made. Based on the children's enthusiasm, we then enjoyed drawing our own robots in the afternoon. There were all sorts of weird and wonderful robot attributes!

Story Predictions in English - we had some picture snippets and vocabulary from the story, and wrote our predictions.

In Science, we measured and compared speed using time to answer the question, "Do all animals move at the same speed?" After recording the speed of animals in a race, we measured speed in our own time challenges. The challenges were very creative!

In Maths, we've shown great perseverance to attempt some challenging maths where we bridge through 10 to add two numbers together. Children worked practically to partition whatever we were adding to make a group of 10, then add the remaining ones to find our answer.

    Week 2 - Owl Board

In Science, we enjoyed testing to explore the question 'Is the Gingerbread Man waterproof?' Children were fascinated by the water changing colour, the gingerbread man becoming soggier and eventually, becoming very mushy when we tried to take him out!

We've now completed our Art project! The children enthusiastically tore and cut leftover bits of material from the project to create the outside of the boxes.

In DT, we've been exploring a variety of vegetables to build up our vocabulary linked to taste, texture and appearance.

    Week 3 - Owl Board

In Maths, we're halving odd numbers... remembering the last one counted must be split into two halves.

In Science, we tested materials to see if we could make a waterproof home for the gingerbread man!

In English, we've enjoyed innovating and writing our own fantasy stories with a robot as the main character!

In RE, as part of our exploration of important people, we listened the Bible story of Moses and the Parting of the Red Sea. We explained how some people believe God asked Moses to help the Jews from having to work all day long... and when they were set free, Moses guided them and parted the sea to help them escape. We created our own artwork to represent the story.

    Week 4 - Owl Board

In Geography, we enjoyed a local walk to explore physical and human features in the area. We discussed how people use the local area too.

In DT, we have explored how existing salads are made. We identified the vegetables used, what skills had been used and shared which we liked or disliked.

    Week 5 - Owl Board

Sports Day! We are so proud of all the children for their perseverance, teamwork and talents across a range of sports activities! More pictures can be found on the website following Children - Sporting Events.

In Maths, we have been grouping and dividing amounts.

In RE, we thought about times we spend together with our families and created a special plate of food we would want to share with our family.

In PRSHE, we've learned the names for our body parts. We used NSPCC Pantosaurus to help us explore the importance of keeping our private parts private.

In Science, we explored whether all body parts sense touch the same. Could we sense the difference between the ear bud and pen using different body parts?

In SPAG, we're practising how to spell the days of the week. We searched for days of the week outdoors, carefully looking closely at how they're spelt.

In English, we're exploring Poetry. We enjoyed reading with expression to share poems with our partner.

In Science, we collected data to create a tally and a bar chart.

In DT, we've practised cutting and slicing skills and planned what we'll include in our vegetable salad.

In Music, we've explored rhythmic structure.
