  • Summer 1

This term, we will be exploring a range of exciting topics across different subjects. In History, we will study the Ancient Maya to learn about their civilisation, culture and achievements. In Science, we will investigate plant reproduction and how plants grow and produce new life. Our Religious Education will focus on learning about the Five Pillars of Islam and their importance to Muslims. Alongside our classroom learning, in PE, we will also develop our physical skills and teamwork through athletics.

We can't wait to get started!

    Week 5

In Maths , we have been studying time graphs, which show how something changes over a period of time. We learned how to read and draw these graphs by looking at the horizontal axis for time and the vertical axis for the value being measured, such as distance or speed.

In History, we have been learning about the religious beliefs of the Ancient Maya, which were an important part of their daily life and culture. The Maya believed in many gods, each connected to different aspects of nature, such as the sun, rain, and maize (corn).

In Science we have been investigating seeds. We had fun looking at the seeds hidden inside a range of fruit.

Here we are attempting to match a spelling to a definition as part of the circle game. Some of these words we found a little tricky.

    Week 4

In  Geography, we have been studying fair trade and the Ivory Coast to understand how global trade affects farmers and communities. Fair trade helps ensure that farmers are paid a fair price for their products and work in safe conditions, while also protecting the environment. The Ivory Coast is one of the world’s largest producers of cocoa, which is used to make chocolate, but many farmers there struggle with low incomes and poor living conditions.

We have been studying coordinates and translation in Maths to learn how to plot points on a grid and describe their positions. We have also learnt how shapes can be moved using translations without changing their size or shape.

In English,  we wrote a character description of the Pied Piper, taking inspiration from the original text. We focused on his appearance, personality and actions, using descriptive language to bring the character to life while staying true to how he is presented in the story.

We used careful word choices and expanded noun phrases to make a short rap about the story. By adding descriptive details to nouns, we made our lines more memorable and helped the audience picture what we were rapping about. We then performed our rap to parents at the end of the day as a mini flash mob. We really enjoyed this!

    Week 3

In Art, we have spent time planning what we wanted to sew onto our prints. We shared our ideas, talked about different designs and chose the ones we liked best. This is helping us get ready to start sewing and make our work look special.

In History,  we have been learning about the stone remains of Ancient Maya cities and investigating what they were used for. We explored places like temples, palaces and homes to find out how the Maya people lived, worked and worshipped. This helped us understand the importance of these buildings to this ancient civilisation. We used photos for clues and tried to match the image to the description.

    Week 2

This week, the children thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Bunny Run, making the most of the lovely sunshine and showing great enthusiasm throughout. We also celebrated with our inflatable fun treat as a reward for excellent behaviour over the Spring term. Well done, everyone!

In PE, we have started our athletics unit and have been revising our throwing skills and testing our sprinting speed.

As the weather has been so nice, we took our spellings outside and had fun trying to act out the words.

In Art, we are very excited to start our special project. We have been investigating an old painting by seeing only close up sections of each part. We were very surprised when we saw the completed painting, and we can't wait to print and sew our responses to it.

    Week 1

In PRSHE, we created small team games to help us work together to reach a shared goal. We had to communicate, cooperate and support each other to succeed. This activity helped us develop teamwork skills and showed us how working together can make tasks more enjoyable and effective.

In Science, we are carrying out an experiment to find out if plants need air to grow well. We are observing the plants over time and comparing the results to see how air affects their growth.

In English, we have created our own imaginary animal for our non‑chronological report. We used our imagination and real world animal knowledge to decide what it looks like, where it lives and how it survives. This helped us practise organising information and writing in an informative way.

In Maths we have been finding the difference between two numbers, starting by using a bead string to help us count and understand the calculation.
