    Welcome back to Spring 2!

We are excited to continue our History work on the Ancient Egyptians, where the children will explore a range of historical sources to understand and investigate ancient beliefs. In Geography, we will be learning more about rainforests, how they are changing, and making links to our own wildlife garden in school. This half term we will also enjoy rugby sessions in PE and begin creating our own pencil cases in DT. The children will continue practising the recorder as we prepare for our Pendle Proms performance in the summer.

We are looking forward to a busy and engaging half term ahead!

    Week 4

This week in PRSHE, our students took part in a practical First Aid workshop. During the session, they learnt and practised key lifesaving skills, including how to perform CPR. Pupils also explored what to do if someone is choking and now feel more confident in responding safely and calmly in an emergency situation. We are proud of how well the children engaged with the workshop and the important skills they have developed.

In Geography we have been learning about sustainability and exploring ways we can make our school more environmentally friendly. As part of this, we have looked at simple everyday actions that can make a big difference, such as switching off lights when they are not needed, using less paper and recycling whenever possible. By making small changes to our habits, we can help reduce waste, save energy and take better care of our planet. This project has helped us understand that everyone has a part to play in creating a more sustainable school community.

    Week 3

The children enjoyed a fun session this week practising their skipping skills and learning a range of new techniques. It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and determination as they challenged themselves and supported one another.

In PE, we have been learning how to throw a rugby ball properly by using our hands in a “W” shape. We spread our thumbs and fingers to make a W so that we can hold the ball securely and keep it steady. Then we point the ball towards our target, step forward, and push the ball from our hands so it travels in a straight line. Using the W grip helps us stay in control and make more accurate passes to our teammates.

    Week 2

We had such a lovely time on World Book Day. Everyone came to school dressed in their cosiest pyjamas, even the teachers! We spent the morning sharing our books and talking about the stories we love. Later, we took part in fun reading activities, including a torchlit story session with Pine Class. The whole day felt magical and it really showed how much we enjoy reading and celebrating books together.

In English, we have just started reading Gulliver’s Travels and the whole class is already really excited about the story. When we learned about the tiny Lilliputians, we had so many questions about who they were, what their lives were like and how they managed to capture someone as huge as Gulliver. Their miniature world fascinated us and we can’t wait to find out more as we continue reading.

In DT we are making a mock‑up and using a pattern to practise our sewing skills. First, we are learning how to follow the pattern carefully so we understand the shape and size of each piece. Then, we are using our mock‑ups to try out different stitches and practise joining the fabric together. This helps us build confidence before we start sewing our final designs.

    Week 1

This week in History, the children have been exploring a range of historical sources linked to ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses. We have been looking closely at how different historians interpret these sources and how their claims can vary depending on the evidence they use.
