Here is an overview of our learning this half term.

Maths Units -  Counting and Money, Multiplication, Division, Length and Mass, Addition and Subtraction
Science – Materials and their Uses - We will be testing and exploring the suitability of materials, as well as investigating how solid objects can be shaped. We'll also explore properties like runny-ness.
PE - Kicking. We will develop our confidence controlling a ball and kicking it with accuracy.
RE - We are exploring the religion of Islam, considering the importance of prayer and how obedience is a way of showing gratitude.
PRSHE - Rights and Responsibilities: What can we do with money? Within this, we also explore our responsibilities in our classroom, at home and in terms of animals and the environment.
Music - Musical Symbols: We will explore tempo, rhythm, pitch and dynamics through movement, clapping and symbols. They will perform together to demonstrate their understanding.

The following subjects continue over Spring 1 and Spring 2:

History - What was school like in the past? We'll find out and investigate what school was like in the past, and compare modern classrooms and in the past?
Geography - What is the weather like in the UK? Locating the four countries of the UK, identify seasonal changes and investigate daily weather patterns.
Art - Weaving – To fix materials and explore plaiting, threading and knotting techniques.
DT - Joining Techniques. We will be making our own hand-puppets, using either glueing, stapling, running stitch or whip stitch to join.

    Week 1 - Owl Board

In PE, we have been practising how to control a ball and explored the difference between kicking a ball with accuracy vs. booting a ball a really long way! The children were excellent at controlling their ball and not letting the excitement of having a football get in the way of our accuracy.

In DT, we have learnt two new joining techniques... stapling and whip stitch. The children blew us away as they eagerly used the needle to join two pieces of felt. It was especially amazing to see some of the children had enjoyed some sewing practise at home!

    Week 2 - Owl Board

In Maths, we've been exploring rows and columns to make arrays.

In Art, we've been paper weaving.

In English, we have been practising our oral rehearsal by using a microphone to remind us to always say our sentence before writing it.

World Book Day was an exciting day filled with a variety of Reading Adventures!

    Week 3 - Owl Board

In DT, we designed and made templates for our hand puppets.

Using the glockenspiels to explore pitch in Music.

Using exclamation marks in our SPAG starter.

The children blew me away as they remained focussed and showed super knowledge completing English and Maths quizzes.

    Week 4 - Owl Board

We combined all the skills we've learnt in art to make fantastic looms! (Weaving, knotting, plaiting, threading and wrapping).

The children definitely were all smiles for Comic Relief! We discussed the importance of why we were dressed funny to raise money for those in need.

In Maths, we measured mass using grams.

    Week 5 - Owl Board

In Science, we carried out a comparative test to see which liquid was the runniest! The children made predictions, explored each liquid in a pot and then were very excited to observe what happens!

In Maths, we're measuring the length and height of objects using cubes. We recapped the rules for measuring too!

In English, we are exploring Spring poetry. We created a shared list of Spring vocabulary based on a short spring walk outdoors and a read through of Spring poems.

The children absolutely loved making their final product in DT
