    WB 23.03.2026

    Music

This half term, the children have been exploring the musical concepts of theme and variation. They discovered how rhythms can be transferred and performed on different instruments. Using body percussion, they practised complex rhythms and worked together to perform a clear musical theme.

    RE

The children worked their way around the school, finding information about each of the Stations of the Cross.

This helped them learn about the Easter story in an active and engaging way.

    Art

The children were very creative, turning their DT frame structures into memory boxes. They covered the sides with card decorated with memories from their time at school and filled the boxes with items that reminded them of activities they had enjoyed. The finished memory boxes were personal, thoughtful, and beautifully made.

    R.E

The children created a comic strip to retell the events of the Easter story. They carefully illustrated each part of the story in sequence, using pictures and captions to show their understanding. The finished comics were creative and thoughtful.

    DT

The children were very careful when using the hacksaws and bench hooks to create their frame structures. They measured the wood accurately and joined the pieces together using PVA glue and card triangles for extra support. The final products were amazing and the children were very proud of their work.

    Maths

The children have been learning how to use protractors to measure angles accurately. They measured the angles of different shapes to work out whether each shape was regular or irregular. This helped them understand how angles and shape properties are linked.

North West Electricity visited our school and taught the children all about electrical circuits. The children explored how to make their own circuits using bulbs, buzzers and motors. They also experimented with and compared series and parallel circuits, discovering how each one works. Everyone really enjoyed the hands-on learning experience.

    PRSHE

The children had first aid training for CPR, how to use a defibrillator and what to do when someone is choking.

    Art

The children enjoyed designing their own memory boxes in art, adding personal touches and creative details to make them unique.

     Science

Elm class scientists had an exciting morning in the lab at Ribblesdale! They used Bunsen burners to explore what happens when magnesium strips are heated, watched metal fragments create sparkling effects and experimented with different chemicals to observe how they changed the colour of the flame. It was a hands‑on session full of curiosity, discovery and plenty of “wow!” moments.

    World Book Day

    English

This week, we learnt about different legends. We imagined we were Banandonner, the giant from Scotland. We generated questions to ask him when he visited our classroom for a hot-seating activity. The children loved stepping into character and exploring the legend in a fun, creative way!

    Science

In science, we explored the different components of blood and made our own blood using vegetable oil as the plasma, red food dye as the red blood cells and sprinkles as the oxygen and nutrients.

We also looked at our digestive and circularity system exploring how our digestive system delivers nutrients to our blood and how circulatory system pumps the blood around the body delivering the nutrients and oxygen to where it is needed.

    Maths
This week we completed our work on angles and then moved onto fractions. Everyone enjoyed using the multi-link to represent improper fractions and mixed number fractions.

    WB: 23.02.26

    English

This week, the children explored famous speeches and analysed what makes them persuasive. They then used these techniques to write their own persuasive speeches, showing great effort and creativity.

    PE
In PE, we worked on developing our badminton skills, concentrating on hand–eye coordination and control. The children also enjoyed some super fun team games that really showed off their teamwork and determination.

    A Special Treat!
We were very lucky on Friday morning to watch a brilliant production of The Jungle Book. The children were captivated from start to finish, and it was a wonderful way to end the week.
