    WB 02.02.2026

This week, we’re focusing on a selection of spelling words from the Year 5 and Year 6 curriculum.

    WB 26.01.2026

In each pair of homophones, one word is a verb and the other is a noun (although past can also be an adverb, just not in the examples we’re using). Because the two words in each pair sound exactly the same, you need to focus on their meanings and use the rest of the sentence to help you decide which one is correct.

    WB 19.01.2026

This unit builds on last week's work, where we learnt how to choose between the -able and -ible endings. Now that the children are confident with this, we will move on to adding -ly to turn adjectives into adverbs. This becomes a straightforward next step, with the main thing to remember being that we usually drop the final ‘e’ before adding -ly. The children are practising applying this rule and noticing how the meaning of the word changes.

    WB 12.01.2026

This week in spelling, the children will learn how to use the suffixes -able and -ible. They will explore how -able usually follows a complete root word, while -ible is less common and often does not. We will also look at a few exceptions, such as miserable and probable. The children will practise applying the spelling rules, including when to drop the final ‘e’, when to keep it to maintain a soft ‘c’ or ‘g’ and how root words ending in ‘y’ change the ‘y’ to i before adding the suffix.

The emphasis this week is on re-familiarisation and consolidation of spellings covered in Autumn Term.
