    Homework Spring 1 2026

    Welcome to Spring 1. Please choose an activity or activities from the list below. Each project links to a different subject area and enhances work already covered in class. Please submit your finished piece by Monday 9th February 2026. Completed tasks can either be sent to the class email address or brought into school. Have fun!

    History – What was important to the Ancient Egyptians?

    Hieroglyphics Challenge: Write your name and a short message in hieroglyphics. Then, try to explain what each symbol means.

    Geography – Why are rainforests so important to us?

    Create one of the following:

    • A Rainforest Animals Fact File: Choose an animal (e.g. sloth, toucan) and write about its habitat, diet, and adaptations.
    • The Layers of the Rainforest: Draw and label the four layers (emergent, canopy, understory, forest floor) and describe what lives in each.

    English - Persuasion- Issues and Dilemmas

    Watch Wallace and Gromit’s – The Wrong Trousers

    Consider the dilemma facing Gromit when he sees Feathers making plans. What could he do? Write a letter or a note in role as Gromit explaining to Wallace what you have seen and what you think he should do.

    DT Engineering

    Consider the inventions created by Wallace and Gromit – Design a new invention that will improve our world (linked to the engineering competition). Remember to annotate your design. Or, use modelling materials to make an invention, e.g.Lego.

    DT – Sewing

    With an adult, revise the following sewing skills on a piece of material – running stitch, back stitch and blanket stitch.

    Science – Sound

    Explore Chrome Music Lab, focusing on Song Maker. Use this to create a variety of sounds. Test the different instruments available and the tempo. Take a photo of your completed piece and send it to the class email address.

    Or, use a range of junk materials to make an instrument. Possible examples are:

    1. Shaker

    • Materials: Empty plastic bottle, dried beans/rice, tape.
    • How to make: Fill the bottle with beans or rice, seal the lid tightly and decorate the outside.

    2. Drum

    • Materials: Empty tin can or large yogurt pot, balloon, elastic bands.
    • How to make: Cut the balloon and stretch it over the top of the can, secure with elastic bands. Tap with sticks or hands.

    3. Guitar

    • Materials: Empty tissue box, rubber bands, cardboard tube.
    • How to make: Stretch rubber bands across the hole of the tissue box, attach the tube as a neck and strum!

    4. Rainstick

    • Materials: Cardboard tube, foil, rice, tape.
    • How to make: Twist foil into a spiral and insert into the tube, add rice, seal ends and decorate.

    5. Cymbals

    • Materials: Two old pot lids.
    • How to make: Hold one in each hand and clash them together.

    6. Pan Flute

    • Materials: Drinking straws, tape.
    • How to make: Cut straws to different lengths, line them up and tape together.
