  • Spring 1

In Spring 1, our learning will take us on an exciting journey through different subjects. In History, we will explore the fascinating world of the Ancient Egyptians, discovering their incredible achievements and way of life. In Geography, we’ll dive into the vibrant Rainforest, learning about its layers, wildlife, and importance to our planet. In Design and Technology, we will develop our sewing skills by creating our very own pencil cases. In Art, we’ll take inspiration from Egyptian art to produce creative and colourful pieces. Finally, in Science, we will investigate the topic of Sound, exploring how it is made and how it travels. It’s going to be a fantastic term full of creativity and discovery! Keep looking in to see what we have been covering each week.

    Week 4

The pupils had great fun tapping out rhythms on the inflatable drums with Drumz Aloud. They were fully engaged as they explored different beats, experimented with tempo and worked together to copy lively patterns. The activity brought lots of energy and laughter, while also helping them develop their sense of rhythm and teamwork.

In Geography, we have been finding out about the different layers of the rainforest and the wildlife that live in each one. The children learnt how the forest is made up of the forest floor, understory, canopy and emergent layer, and explored how each layer provides a unique habitat. They enjoyed discovering the incredible variety of animals that live there—from insects on the forest floor to birds and monkeys high in the canopy—and how each species is specially adapted to its environment.

In DT, the children have been developing their sewing skills this week by practising a range of stitches, including running stitch, back stitch and blanket stitch. They have shown great concentration and perseverance as they learned how each stitch works and what it’s used for. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they became more accurate and controlled in their needlework.

    Week 3

In English we have been studying the dilemma faced by Gromit in A Matter of Loaf and Death, thinking about the tough choices he has to make throughout the story. To help us understand the plot more clearly, we created our own storyboards, which allowed us to note the key events and explore how the tension builds as the characters face different challenges.

In PE at Roefield, we have been learning to  how to perform a forward roll, pencil roll and straddle in gymnastics, improving our control, balance and confidence.

In Art we have been sketching ideas for our own scroll inspired by traditional Egyptian art, exploring the symbols, colours and storytelling style used by ancient artists.

    Week 2

In Geography, the children have been exploring different biomes around the world and discussing where these environments can be found. They have enjoyed using atlases to locate key regions, including the Amazon Rainforest in South America. To deepen their understanding, the children also studied a range of photographs to identify some of the key physical features of the Amazon Rainforest.

    Week 1

In Art we have been exploring images of Egyptian artwork and copying some of their distinctive shapes and ideas using a range of media. We particularly enjoyed using the pastels and chalks to create softer images, smudging our lines and shapes.

This week’s history lesson has truly sparked curiosity! The children engaged deeply with the topic, generating thoughtful and insightful questions about sources from ancient civilisations. Their enthusiasm for exploring the past is inspiring, and we look forward to continuing this journey of discovery together.
