    Here is an overview of our learning this half term. 

    English - We are exploring riddles, poetry and non-chronological reports. We will be using the story, The Perfect Pet to help us explore these genres.
    Maths Units - Money, Time, Number and Place Value, Measurement: Mass, Geometry: 2D & 3D Shape, Counting and Money
    Science - Comparing Animals. We will be describing different animals, comparing features, animal diets and groups as well as exploring our own and each other's pets!
    PE - Gynmastics
    RE - We are exploring the religion of Hindu Dharma. We will explore how Hindus believe in one God, who is worshipped in many different forms.
    PRSHE - Keeping Myself Safe. Who helps to keep us safe in the community? How can we get help if there is an accident? How can we stay safe online? 
    Music - Call and Response. Can we copy and create short sound patterns using our bodies and instruments, demonstrating contrasting dynamics?

    The following subjects continue over Autumn 1 and Autumn 2:

    History - What was school like in the past? We'll find out and investigate what school was like in the past, and compare classrooms modern and in the past?
    Geography - What is the weather like in the UK? Locating the four countries of the UK, identify seasonal changes and investigate daily weather patterns.
    Art - Weaving – To fix materials and explore plaiting, threading and knotting techniques.
    DT - Joining Techniques. We will be making our own handpuppets, using either glueing, stapling, running stitch or whip stitch to join.

    Week 6 - wb 9.2.2026

    Owl Board

    As part of Children's mental health week, we have been wearing our slippers in school. They made us feel happy and relaxed.

     

    We thought about what makes us feel safe and secure. We represented our ideas by creating' This is my place' maps.

       

      

       

    We completed our animals unit in Science. We created our own fantasy animals using body parts from different animal groups.

             

    Week 5 - wb 2.2.2026

    Owl Board

    In PE, we stretched our muscles, practising straddle shapes and crab walk and bear walking.

                       

    In English, we highlighted key words to make notes about ducks in order to support our non-chronological reports. 

      

    The Year 1 children sorted 2-D and 3-D shapes in Maths.

     

    In DT, we practised the joining skills of glueing and using the running stitch. 

      

    Week 4 - wb 26.1.2026

    Owl Board

    We loved our Druhmz Aloud session. We concentrated really hard and had lots of fun.

                       

    In Maths, the year one group have been learning about 3D shapes. We have focused on pyramids, spheres, cubes and cuboids.

               

    In Science, we have been researching animal diets.

    Year 2 children identified and named coins in Maths.

    In History, Mrs Hailwood visited our class to discuss what school life was like for her when she was a little girl at Pendle in the 1950s. 

    Week 3 - wb 19.1.2026

    Owl Board

    The Year 1 children used a picture to represent a 2-digit number in Maths.

    We have enjoyed reading 'Wanted The Perfect Pet' in English.  We thought about what skills the Duck would offer to Henry as he really wanted a dog!

      

    We practised a 1 point, 2 point, 3 point and 4 point balance in Gymnastics

    In Art, we chose and measured 90cms of wool in order to create our wool wrappings around a twig and a piece of card.

      

     

    We looked for sign of Winter in our Geography lesson and we discussed the weather.

    Week 2 - wb 12.1.2026

    Owl Board

    In PE, we are focusing on gymnastics. We practised our pencil rolls and caterpillar walking.

        

     

    In Science, we sorted animals into groups. We looked at features of different animals and wrote 'Who am I ?' riddles.

           

     

    In Music, we learned about dynamics and practiced playing instruments loudly and quietly.

    In RE, we created a flower to reflect who is special to us and how we show that we care.

    In DT, we explored existing sewn products and investigated how they have been made.

     

    In History, we placed photographs on a timeline showing how schools have changed over the decades.

    Year 1 children compared two numbers within 50 using Base 10 in one of their Maths lessons.

     

    Week 1 - wb 5.1.2026

    Owl Board 

    In Art, Mrs Govender spoke to us about her creative interests. We are looking forward to creating our own woven wonders!

    In Science this term, we are learning about animals. We grouped animals using different visible features.

         

     

    In RE, we talked about the qualities that people need for different jobs. Here is a lovely example of the qualities needed to be a vet.

    In English, we have enjoyed reading a range of riddles and talked about why the hardest clue should come first to generate lots of answers.

      

    We enjoyed using an atlas to locate the four countries of the United Kingdom in our Geography lesson. 

    In gymnastics, we created a sequence which incorporated a tuck roll, a log roll and balancing between two benches.
