  • Autumn 2

This half-term, we are exploring the theme “What is the Past?” through exciting events such as Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, and Christmas. We will also be learning about real-life superheroes like firefighters and doctors, inspired by stories such as Zog and the Flying Doctors.

In Maths, Reception will focus on numbers to 10, while Year 1 will explore shape, sequencing, fractions, capacity, money, and time.

Our Science topic is Everyday Materials, where we will investigate what things are made from and test their properties. In RE, we’ll learn about Christianity, exploring why Jesus is seen as the light of the world and discover the meaning of Advent and Christmas. In DT, we will design our own moving greetings cards, and in PRSHE, we’ll think about valuing differences and celebrating what makes each of us unique.

We are also looking forward to preparing for our Nativity/Christmas performance. A wonderful opportunity for children to shine, build confidence, and celebrate together at the end of term!

    Week 6

    Week 6 - Owl Board

In DT, the children have been busy exploring sliders and levers! The Year 1 are creating some special Christmas cards, while the Reception children have loved making sliders independently during provision.

The children have had a fantastic time in Santa’s Workshop! They’ve been busy little elves – wrapping presents, using their fine motor skills!

We really enjoyed the story Father Christmas Comes Up Trumps – there were lots of giggles! During Drawing Club, Miss Lancaster created a secret code to stop him from trumping. The children drew Father Christmas and then invented their own secret codes.

We have been busy getting into the Christmas spirit! The children have loved creating paper chains, designing Christmas cards, and making some extra special baubles for their very special grown-ups.

We are incredibly proud of our Reception Nativity and Year 1 Christmas performance. The children shone so brightly and shared the festive spirit with confidence and joy. Well done to all of our wonderful performers!

    Week 5

    Week 5 - Owl Board

In Year 1 Maths, the children have been learning about capacity.

Cherry Class had a very exciting week! We checked our classroom “camera” and were amazed to discover a video of Father Christmas flying over our classroom! He even left us a special letter, asking us to write our own letters to him.

Miss Lancaster was incredibly proud of our Reception children. They represented the number 9 beautifully, showing a deep and confident understanding of how numbers work. One child explained, “3 and 3 is 6. 3 more is 9,” demonstrating fantastic early mathematical reasoning. Well done, Reception!

    Week 4

    Week 4 - Owl Board

What an amazing Real-Life Superhero Day we had! The children looked absolutely fantastic in their outfits and embraced the challenge of becoming as many real-life superheroes as they could. Throughout the day, we stepped into the shoes of doctors helping to care for people, vets looking after animals, builders creating incredible structures, postal workers delivering important letters, dentists keeping teeth sparkling clean, and so much more!

We had an exciting visit from the fire service this week! The firefighters talked to us about the importance of having a working fire alarm and showed us their special uniform, explaining what each part is for and why they wear it. We also learnt about the different equipment they use to keep people safe. The best part was getting to sit inside their fire engine. It was a fantastic experience!

    Week 3

    Week 3 - Owl Board

In our PE lesson, the children experimented with a variety of creative star shapes while moving around the hall in different ways. They travelled under, over, and along low-level apparatus, practising balances using both small and large body parts. Each station invited them to freeze in a star shape, move with control, and make confident use of the whole space.

This week, Zog swooped into Cherry Class with his trusty medical kit! We loved sharing the story of Zog and the Flying Doctors, drawing our own brilliant Zogs, and coming up with fantastic words to describe him. Our Year 1 children also worked hard on using the joining word and in their writing.

We had great fun making crowns just like Princess Pearl! The children practised their fine motor cutting skills and were so proud of their beautiful finished creations.

Forest Friday was a muddy blast! We pulled on our wellies and headed out to explore. The children loved making mud pies, creating leaf kebabs, joining in a very noisy parade, and searching for lots of little creatures.

    Week 2

    Week 2 - Owl Board

Children in Need! The children looked amazing today - fantastic effort from everyone! We talked about what Children in Need is and why it is important. The class enjoyed making their own Pudsey Bears, and they took part in Pudsey’s Kindness Challenge. They had to find Pudsey around the school and complete a kind challenge - for example, “Give a friend a hug.” A wonderful day filled with kindness and creativity!

In Geography, we have been making messy maps! Year 1 created a messy map of our classroom, and Reception made a simple map of our playground. We talked about the different features we could see!

We had a special visit from the police! We learned all about their important jobs and the equipment they use to help keep us safe. The best part was getting to explore a real police car!

    Week 1

    Week 1 - Owl Board

We had so much fun making our own firework rockets!

We learnt all about Guy Fawkes Night! Together with Apple Class, we built our own bonfire and even made a Guy for the Castle Park bonfire!

We have enjoyed creating beautiful fireworks patterns using paint and making bright bursts of colour with chalk. We listened to and discussed the different sounds that fireworks make, and came up with fantastic words to describe them, such as bang, whizz and pop. The Year 1 children added the suffix -ing to the words.
