This half term, we are exploring the theme “What is the Past?” through events like Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, and Christmas. We’ll also be learning about “real life superheroes” such as firefighters and doctors. Stories like Zog and the Flying Doctors will inspire discussions about what we want to be when we grow up. In Maths, we’re focusing on numbers to 10—exploring composition, formation, counting, and comparing more and less. We’re also preparing for our Nativity performance, helping children build confidence and develop their performance skills. An exciting term ahead!
The children have been busy making their very own Christmas cards! They carefully chose from a variety of festive designs and explored different materials to create something truly special. The children are full of excitement and can’t wait to share their wonderful creations with you.
Today our EYFS children had an exciting visit from an engineer! We learnt that engineers solve problems by inventing something new. Inspired by this, we went back to class and got creative—thinking of everyday problems like carrying heavy bags, noisy rooms, and water bottles spilling. The children then designed their very own inventions to solve these challenges. What brilliant little problem-solvers they are!
We’ve been getting into the Christmas spirit today! The children looked wonderful in their festive Christmas jumpers and enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch—complete with crackers and plenty of laughter.
Our EYFS children shone brightly in their nativity performances this week! They were absolutely fantastic—wearing amazing costumes, singing beautifully, and showing such confidence with their loud, clear voices. We are so proud of how well they joined in, worked together as a team, and made the performances truly special. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make it happen!

This week, our children have been learning all about the number 10. They made 10 using cubes, counted carefully with 1:1 correspondence, and used a ten frame to check their work. Fantastic focus and number skills!
Our children have been creating beautiful Christmas pictures using tangram shapes. They looked carefully to match the pieces, rotated them to fit, and showed fantastic problem-solving skills.
We’ve been getting into the Christmas spirit in EYFS! The children have loved creating their own beautiful baubles using a range of materials, including sequins and tissue paper.
Our EYFS children enjoyed a visit to the school library! They loved sharing books with friends and talking about the reasons behind their choices. It was a fantastic way to celebrate a love of reading!
The children have been joyfully retelling the Nativity story! They used character names, took on different roles, and even included speech to bring the story to life. It was wonderful to see their imagination, confidence, and storytelling skills shine through as they shared this special tale together.
Today we enjoyed our weekly Welly Wednesday session in the wildlife garden. The children sang songs together before setting off to explore. They had a wonderful time mixing imaginative “potions,” discovering the natural world, and challenging themselves by taking safe risks—like climbing up and down the steep hill. A fantastic afternoon of fun, creativity, and confidence-building!
We had a very exciting visit from the firefighters as part of our topic People Who Help Us. The children learnt all about the important jobs firefighters do and discussed fire safety in the home. We explored the fire engine, looked at the equipment they use, and as a special treat, saw the lights and sirens in action! A huge thank you to the fire service for coming to visit – it was a truly memorable experience.
The children had lots of fun designing and making their own crowns, just like the princess in Zog and the Flying Doctors. They practised their fine motor skills by cutting, colouring, and carefully adding materials such as gems, feathers, and collage pieces.
We’re having lots of fun practising our numbers in class, using little patters to help us remember how to form them more easily. It would be fantastic if children could keep practising at home too!

We have been using our phonics fingers to segment and spell simple CVC words such as pin, mat, and mop. Alongside this, we are practising our handwriting patterns, like “Around the anchor and down the rope”, to help us form letters correctly and develop confident early writing skills.
This week during Welly Wednesday, the children got their bodies moving with a running challenge! We aimed to run for 5 minutes without stopping – it was tricky, but we’re building stamina and working towards 10 minutes. Afterwards, we had fun popping bubbles before joining in with lively parachute games. All of these activities help us develop both fine and gross motor skills while keeping active and having fun!
This week we’ve been practising zipping up our coats. It’s a little more tricky with our thick winter coats, but the children are showing great resilience and determination! It would be fantastic if you could continue to practise at home to help build confidence and independence.
With the frosty temperatures this week, the children had the chance to explore ice and frost outdoors. We talked about how it looked and felt, using descriptive words such as slippery, cold, and shimmery. The children were fascinated to discover what happens when we hold ice and why it melts, building their scientific thinking and vocabulary through hands-on exploration.
Reception had lots of fun celebrating Anti-Bullying Week. We wore odd socks to show that everyone is different and special. We talked about how to be kind, make good choices, and be a good friend. We shared ideas, read stories, and practised using kind words and helping hands. We even designed our own socks and made colourful bunting to hang around school.
We’re excited to welcome Pip, our new EYFS class bear! Each week, Pip will go home with a different child to share in their adventures. Don’t forget to write or draw what you get up to together in his special book. Pip can’t wait to meet everyone and become part of your stories!
We’ve been busy practising writing words in phonics, using our phonics fingers to help us segment sounds. We’re also working hard to form each letter carefully, building confidence and accuracy in our early writing skills!
As part of our topic 'People Who Help Us', we had a special visit from the police! We learned all about their equipment and important roles, and even got to explore a real police car.
We have been getting creative this week, designing their very own bonfire and fireworks-inspired bracelets! Using a mix of colourful materials, they explored joining techniques with staplers, cellotape, and glue to bring their dazzling designs to life.
We began by talking about the sights and colours we see during Bonfire Night — from sparkling bursts of gold to swirling shades of blue and red. Inspired by these dazzling displays, the children used paint and pastels to create their own firework pictures, experimenting with colour, texture, and movement.
We have been busy building their own towers using blocks! As they stacked each one, they counted how many they used and noticed how adding more made their towers grow taller. It was a fantastic way to explore early maths skills through hands-on play and discovery!
Our new unit in PE is inspired by the book 'How to Catch a Star' by Oliver Jeffers. We have been learning to balance on small and large body parts in the shape of a star.
