Here is an overview of our learning this half term.
English - We are exploring stories with repetitive patterns and stuctures, as well as practising a range of non-fiction writing.
Maths Units - Geometry: 2D & 3D Shape , Sequencing and Sorting, Fractions, Capacity and Volume, Money &Time
Science - Everyday Materials. We will distinguish between objects and the material/s they are made from. We will then test the different properties of materials i.e. waterproofness, absorbency.
PE - Dance!
RE - We are continuining our exploration of Christianity and will discuss why Christians see Jesus as the light of the world. We will also learn about Advent and Christmas.
PRSHE - Valuing Differences. What is the same and different about us? We will be exploring our similarities and differences, considering how being kind to ourselves and others is always important.
Music - We're exploring how to use our voices and instruments to make different sounds and play simple rhythms in time with a steady beat. We’re also learning to work together and take on different roles when performing as a group.
The following subjects continue over Autumn 1 and Autumn 2:
History - What is history? We will learn about what history is, placing significant life events on a timeline and talking about the past and present.
Geography - What is it like here? We will explore our school grounds, creating and exploring maps before then making our own suggestions for how areas could be improved.
Art - Drawing: We are going to explore and share our opinions on the work of LS Lowry. We will then investigate techniques and effects used by the artist and apply these within our own artwork.
DT - Sliders and Levers: We will investigate different slider and lever mechanisms, practise creating our own and then apply those skills to create our own greetings cards.
In English, we explored verbs linked to fireworks. We created our own firework drawings, and then added the verbs we'd chosen.

In Art, we explored how LS Lowry represents buildings in his artwork. We discussed his use of light and dark, and how the buildings in his paintings were very dull and gloomy factories, houses and churches. The children enjoyed working together to draw their own buildings in the style of Lowry.

In Science, we have been naming everyday materials and sorting them into groups.

In Geography:

In Maths, we have explored a variety of 3D Shapes (spheres, pyramids, cuboids and cubes) and have grouped them based on their characteristics.

In Music, we were thinking about the dynamics of voices. We role-played the story of the Three Little Pigs. We enjoyed taking turns to growl and speak deeply like the wolf and then speak squeakily like the pigs.

In Science, we are exploring properties of materials. We made our own feely boards, considered properties of materials in our own 'That's not my...' books and we also explored materials outdoors. We felt surfaces with our hands and then explored what happens when we print on that surface using paper and wax crayons.

In Maths, we've been learning how to count in 2s and 5s.
