WB: 13.10.25
We’ve had a wonderfully creative and hands-on week in class, and we’re excited to share what we’ve been learning across different subjects!
This week in music, we explored how sound shapes emotion in film. Pupils listened to a variety of musical scores from different movies, discussing how each one helped set the mood—whether suspenseful, joyful, or mysterious. Inspired by these, we created our own graphic scores, using symbols and shapes to represent musical ideas. It was a fantastic way to combine visual creativity with musical understanding!
In English, we’ve been working on non-chronological reports all about Chamonix, a beautiful town nestled in the French Alps. Pupils researched its geography, climate, and attractions, then structured their writing to inform and engage readers. We focused on using formal tone, clear headings, and interesting facts to bring our reports to life.

Our DT lessons have been full of movement—literally! Using practical equipment, pupils investigated how pulleys and gears work. Through hands-on experiments, they discovered how these mechanisms can change the direction of force and make lifting easier.

WB:06.10.2005
In Science, we’ve been exploring dissolving and how different factors affect it. Pupils investigated how the temperature of water influences the rate at which sugar dissolves, making predictions and recording results like real scientists.
We also had fun with a colourful experiment using Skittles! Pupils observed how the sugar coating dissolves in water and how this can be used to create beautiful patterns – a great way to combine science with creativity.

In French, we’ve been recapping pronunciation skills and building confidence with key vocabulary. Pupils practised speaking and listening through games and interactive activities, helping them develop a strong foundation in the language.

In PRSHE, we were learning how to build and maintain healthy relationships based on:
Respect, Trust, Good communication, Support, Equality
We also explored how to spot unhealthy relationships, such as those involving control, fear, or disrespect and what you do if you're ever worried about a relationship; speak to someone you trust—like a parent or teacher.

π§  Active Brain Breaks with iMoves
To keep our minds fresh and focused we’ve been using iMoves throughout the week for energetic brain breaks. These short bursts of movement have helped us reset, re-energise, and stay engaged in our learning. The children have loved the variety of activities, from dance routines to quick fitness challenges – it’s been a great way to boost both concentration and wellbeing.
βοΈ Science Fiction Writing – A New Perspective
In English we’ve been diving deep into our science fiction stories, but with a twist! Each child has been writing their story from a different character’s perspective, applying all the skills we’ve developed this half term around quality writing. From vivid descriptions and powerful vocabulary to varied sentence structures and thoughtful dialogue, the children have shown real creativity and maturity in their storytelling. We’re so proud of the imaginative worlds they’ve built and the empathy they’ve shown in exploring different viewpoints.
π§ DT with K'Nex – Engineering in Action
In Design and Technology we’ve been hands-on with K'Nex, exploring how pulleys and gears work in real-life mechanisms. The children have worked collaboratively using the kits to build working models, testing and refining their ideas as they go. It’s been fantastic to see their problem-solving skills in action and their excitement as their creations came to life!
π³οΈ School Councillor Voting Day
This week also marked our School Councillor Voting Day, where pupils took part in a democratic process to elect their class representatives. We were so impressed by the thoughtful manifestos and the respectful way everyone took part, it proved to be a very close-run election! We’re delighted to announce that Darcy and Harrison will be representing our class this year. Congratulations to both – we know they’ll do a fantastic job!

WB: 22.09.25
We've had a wonderfully active and creative week in class, full of discovery and imagination! Here's a peek into what we've been up to:
πΊοΈ Geography – Why Visit the Alps?
This week, we’ve been exploring the stunning Alpine region and investigating why it attracts so many tourists. From skiing and hiking to breathtaking scenery and cultural experiences, the children have been thinking critically about what makes the Alps such a popular destination. We’ve also been learning how to read topographical maps, identifying features like elevation, contour lines, and landforms – a great way to connect geography with real-world skills!
Maths
This week, the children have been developing their understanding of addition and subtraction through a range of mental strategies. They've explored partitioning numbers, used bridging and practised counting-up to find the difference between numbers. They've also used the compensation strategy, helping them adjust numbers to simplify problems. These approaches are building strong foundations for confident and flexible mathematical thinking.
π¨ Art – Continuous Line Portraits
Creativity has been flowing in our art sessions! The children have been learning to draw portraits using the continuous line method, which encourages focus and fluidity. They’ve also experimented with varying the size, shape, and position of words to add interest to their work. We’ve explored how different backgrounds can change the mood and impact of a drawing – some very thoughtful and expressive pieces have emerged!

WB: 15.09.25
We’ve had a fantastic week of learning, full of curiosity, creativity, and collaboration across subjects!
π RE – The Pillars of Islam
In Religious Education, we’ve been exploring how the Five Pillars of Islam provide guidance and structure for followers of the Islamic faith. Through thoughtful discussions and engaging activities, the children have begun to understand how these pillars support Muslims in their daily lives and spiritual journeys. It’s been wonderful to see such respectful and insightful reflections from the class.
βοΈ English – Up-Leveling Sentences with a Game!
To boost our writing skills, we played a fun and interactive game designed to help us up-level our sentences. The children worked in teams to transform simple sentences into more descriptive and powerful ones, using ambitious vocabulary and varied sentence structures. It was a lively session full of laughter and learning – and some truly impressive writing!
βοΈ DT – Pulleys and Gears
Our new Design & Technology topic is all about mechanisms, and we’ve kicked things off by researching famous inventors who have used pulleys and gears in their creations.
