Transition Event

Several local primary schools attended an event we hosted at Clitheroe Cricket Pitch. The event was a huge success – the children loved meeting potential new friends.

Science

In science, we investigated how surface area impacts the time it takes for an object to fall. We discovered that a rock with a large surface area fell slower than a piece of paper with a smaller surface area.

What a fantastic week we have had at PGL Winmarleigh Hall! It has been an unforgettable experience filled with adventure, teamwork and lots of laughter. The children have shown incredible enthusiasm, resilience and support for one another throughout the week, and we could not be prouder of them.

From the moment we arrived, the activities were in full swing. The children worked brilliantly together during raft building, testing their teamwork and creativity before taking to the water! They also tackled a range of problem-solving challenges, showing determination and excellent communication skills.

There were plenty of opportunities to face fears and try something new. Many children climbed to incredible heights on the Jacob’s ladder, took a leap of faith on the giant swing, and showed real bravery during abseiling and the trapeze. It was wonderful to see so many children pushing themselves beyond their comfort zones.

The week also included fun and energetic activities such as disc golf, orienteering, and exciting PGL games, where teamwork and friendly competition were key. The children especially loved archery tag, which brought lots of energy and excitement!

Evenings were just as memorable. We enjoyed a brilliant silent disco, where everyone showed off their dance moves, and a lovely campfire, sharing songs and stories together. The Survivor challenge was another highlight, encouraging teamwork, resilience and creativity in a fun outdoor setting. Of course, visits to the tuck shop were also a firm favourite!

This week has been about so much more than just activities – it has been about building confidence, developing independence, strengthening friendships and creating lifelong memories. The children have been an absolute credit to the school, showing kindness, encouragement and positivity throughout.

We are so proud of everything they have achieved – what an amazing way to celebrate their final term in Year 6!

Back at school, the children have been busy reflecting on their amazing experiences by creating a special scrapbook filled with photos and anecdotes. This has been a lovely opportunity for them to revisit their favourite moments and share their memories at home with family.

✉️ English
In English this week, we have been exploring Wonder by R.J. Palacio. The children have been developing their writing skills by creating their own email exchanges between characters from the story. They carefully considered each character’s personality and viewpoints, writing thoughtful replies that showed empathy and understanding. It has been lovely to see how well the children understand the themes of kindness and friendship within the novel.

➗ Maths
In maths, we have been focusing on developing our multiplication skills. The children have been practising how to compact and expand numbers to help them solve problems more efficiently. They have shown great perseverance, especially when tackling more challenging calculations, and are becoming increasingly confident in explaining their reasoning.

🗺️ Geography
In geography, we have been building our mapwork skills. The children used maps to locate wind farms in Blyth, learning how to read symbols, identify locations and understand how renewable energy sites are positioned along the coastline. This linked brilliantly to our wider discussions about sustainability and energy use.
