At Clitheroe Pendle Primary School, our behaviour system—The Pendle Way—is rooted in clear expectations, strong relationships, and a consistent approach to both recognition and consequence. Built around our core rules of being ready, respectful, and safe, we explicitly teach pupils what positive behaviour looks like through structured routines such as calm corridors, proud walking, smart lines, and one voice. Central to our approach is helping children understand the link between cause and consequence—that their choices, both positive and negative, have predictable outcomes. This clarity supports pupils in developing self-regulation, responsibility, and respect for others.
Our staff provide consistent, emotionally regulated responses to behaviour, using clear stages of support and consequence when expectations are not met. Low-level behaviours are addressed quickly through non-verbal or verbal reminders, giving children the opportunity to reflect and make better choices. If behaviours persist or become more serious, proportionate consequences follow, including restorative conversations, time to reflect, and support from senior leaders where needed. At every stage, the focus remains on learning from behaviour and repairing relationships.
Equally, we place a strong emphasis on celebrating success. Positive behaviour is recognised daily through praise, rewards, and public acknowledgement, reinforcing our high expectations. Pupils who consistently demonstrate The Pendle Way are rewarded with our valued half-termly reward day, providing an opportunity to celebrate their effort, attitude, and commitment to our school values.
We’re incredibly proud to have achieved the Lancashire Behaviour Quality Mark – Silver Award! 🌟
A fantastic recognition of the hard work, dedication, and positive environment we strive to create every day.
The Pendle Way ensure reasonable adjustments are made, fair transparent, and supportive system where every child understands expectations and is empowered to make positive choices, enabling them to thrive both socially and academically.
