Geography - What can you see at the coast? Children will learn to locate and describe the seas, oceans and coasts of the UK using maps and compass directions. They will identify physical and human coastal features and how people use them.

Week 6

This week we have continued to enjoy our cricket sessions. Our skills are developing and we are thoroughly enjoying Farouk's sessions in the sun! This week in Art we completed observational drawings of fish with Mrs Mercer. We looked closely at the gills, eyes, scales and colours. This will help us when we complete our drawings/watercolours.

Week 5

This week we have started to create our innovated Peter Rabbit books. We cannot wait to share these during our class assembly. We have worked really hard in Maths this week solving length problems. We have used Base 10 to help us when needed. We also started a new Maths unit this week 'Addition and Subtraction'. We have been adding two numbers where we have needed to do an exchange to help us solve the calculation. In Science we conducted our experiment to answer the question, 'Do woodlice prefer damp or dry conditions?'. We assigned roles to each member of the group and we really enjoyed working methodically like real scientists. In RE this week we revisited the features of a church and designed our own layout. Next week we will bring our designs to life using a range of construction materials. In History this week we found out about the Bayeux Taspestry and we matched statements to various scenes. In PRSHE, we considered the question, 'What can help us grow and stay healthy?' Our knowledge was fantastic. We are looking forward to building upon our existing knowledge and finding out more.

Week 4

This week we really enjoyed beginning to plan our innovated version of 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit'. We are changing the characters and other features of the original tale. This week we have explored length in Maths. We have worked practically using rulers, metre sticks, tape measures and trundle wheels. In Science this week we asked questions and planned how to carry out an experiment. Next week we will conduct the experiment to find out 'Do woodlice prefer damp or dry conditions?'. We will use tally marks to record results and then use our results to answer the question. This week in PE we have continued to develop our throwing, catching, aiming, striking and fielding skills. We really enjoyed our sessions outside in the beautiful sunshine!

Week 3

What a lovely week of sunshine and learning! We really enjoyed completing the Bunny Run on Tuesday afternoon. We tried really hard and really enjoyed receiving our certificate and chocolate bunny treat at the end. This week we have focussed on Multiplication & Division in Maths. We have shared and grouped objects using jottings to help us. In English, we have completed recounts from the perspective of Peter Rabbit and Benjamin Bunny. We have tried really hard to use a range of punctuation in our writing, such as, apostrophes for omission and possession, commas in a list and capital letters for proper nouns. In History this week we discovered that a Coronation is a special religious ceremony where a new king or queen is crowned. We found out about and then recorded each stage of the coronation ceremony. In DT this week, we examined, handled and identified a range of fruit and vegetables. We described the shape, colour and feel using a range of vocabulary.

Week 2

This week we are continuing with our Multiplication & Division unit in Maths. We have continued to look at arrays organised into rows and columns and we have thought about and listed repeated addition and multiplication facts to correspond to the arrays. In English we have created character profiles for Mr McGregor and Peter Rabbit. We used 'and' and 'but' to join clauses in a sentence. This week we enjoyed our first cricket session with Farouk. We practised the skills of hitting a ball off a cone to a target. This week in RE we considered how symbols can reflect a message or a set of values. We created a 'logo' with a range of images and symbols to represent us and our uniqueness. This week in Science we created a wormery. We considered the question, What do worms do to the soil? We decided it was difficult to observe worms because they live underground. So we are looking forward to observing the worms in their microhabitat under the soil to answer this question. This week in Music we listened to a piece of music called 'Mars' by the composer Gustav Holst. We then considered which colours, symbols, pictures or shapes we would choose to represent the music.

Week 1

What a super start to the Summer term. This week we have started our new text in English, 'The Tale of Peter Rabbit' by Beatrix Potter. We have really enjoyed listening to the first part of the story and exploring new and unfamiliar vocabulary. We have considered Peter's character and we have thought about what we would like to know more about too. This week in Maths we have continued the topic of money. We have worked hard to solve word problems finding the difference between amounts and how much we have left to spend. In PE we have started out throwing and striking unit. We really enjoyed playing a range of games involving underarm throwing and throwing to a target. In Science we explored a range of minibeasts. We know minibeasts are small invertebrates—animals without a backbone. We discovered that they represent over 97% of all animal species on Earth, including insects, spiders, worms, snails, and woodlice. This week in Music we listened to a piece of music and imagined we were going on a journey through space to discover a new planet. We created a space soundscape, which is like a landscape but using only sounds. For example, stars twinkling and an astronaut's rocket whooshing and landing. This week in RE we explored important symbols in Christianity. We discovered the dove is a symbol for hope and peace. We made doves using paper plates and displayed these on our corridor.
