Summer 1

Our new topic this half-term is "Kings and Queens."

The children will explore the world of royalty through a range of engaging stories such as Jack and the Beanstalk, The Queen's Hat and The Queen's Handbag.

In History, we will discover what a monarchy is and learn about coronations. The children will have the exciting opportunity to act out their own coronation, bringing their learning to life through role-play.

In RE, we will be discussing special places that are meaningful to us. We will also learn about the Christian church, exploring why it is a special place for many people and what happens there.

In Art, we will be taking part in a special Art project!

Week 6 - Owl Board

In PRSHE, we continued to explore ways to keep our minds and bodies healthy. We enjoyed listening to the story Find Your Happy and talked about the people, activities, and things that make us feel happy.

In History, we compared monarchs over time and explored how kings and queens ruled. We also enjoyed thinking about the type of king or queen we would be!

Week 5 - Owl Board

We enjoyed the story The Queen's Hat and predicted where the hat might land. We explored famous London landmarks, and the children enjoyed drawing Big Ben. We were amazed by the details in the drawings and the sentence writing too!

We have started making our shields. We drew and painted our chosen design, ready to put everything together. We can't wait to see it on the finished shield.

In History, we have been learning about Motte and Bailey castles and Stone Keep castles, exploring their similarities and differences. The children were excited to use their knowledge to build a Stone Keep castle outside!

Week 4 - Owl Board

We have been exploring non-fiction texts all about castles! After learning lots of interesting facts, we wrote our own facts inside the castles we made.

We really enjoyed designing our shields! We carefully thought about the patterns and colours we used. Next, we will be choosing our favourite “patch” to go on the finished shields. We can’t wait to see the final designs come together!

This week we have been exploring castles! In the outdoor classroom, we enjoyed building our own castles with moats, drawbridges and battlements!

Week 3 - Owl Board

In Maths, Reception have been exploring teen numbers.

In History, we have been learning about King Charles III and acting out a simple coronation ceremony.

In Art, we have continued exploring patterns and experimenting with different designs.

Week 2 - Owl Board

We loved our inflatable reward. So much fun! Even the teachers had a go!

In Art, we are taking part in a very special whole-school art project. As part of Forest Friday, we explored patterns. All will be revealed soon!

In PRSHE, we have been thinking about ways to stay healthy, both physically and mentally. We talked about how to look after our bodies and our minds, too.

We took advantage of the sunny weather to finally complete our Bunny Run! We loved hopping and running our way around the cricket field. A big well done to all the children for their fantastic effort! Thank you so much to everyone who supported us with sponsorship!

In PE, we have been practising our fundamental movement skills, including jumping, hopping, and skipping.

Week 1 - Owl Board

In History, we have been enjoying learning about monarchy and what a monarch does. This half-term, we will be picking two “Monarchs of the Day.” We will be looking for children who are showing our rules of being ready, respectful and safe.

We have started creating our own story maps to help us remember the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. Ask your child if they can retell the story to you!

We enjoyed lots of creative activities based on Jack and the Beanstalk. The children made castles and beanstalks, using a range of different skills.

The children enjoyed exploring the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk. Inspired by the story, they drew the giant and used exciting descriptive words such as enormous, grumpy and hairy. Absolutely amazing creations! Enjoy a sneak peek of our display

We have been using some of this descriptive language in our sentence writing, such as ‘The giant is fierce.’ What super independent writing! This Reception child also applied our new learning of the ‘ear’ phoneme in their writing. Fantastic work!
