Here is an overview of our learning this half-term.
English - Classic Stories, Instruction Writing and Innovating Traditional Rhymes
Maths Units - Addition and Subtraction, Fractions, Position and Direction, Time and Place Value
Science – Microhabitats: Asking questions about minibeasts and using scientific enquiry methods to find answers.
PE - Throwing & Cricket: Children will learn to throw accurately underarm and overarm and use simple tactics in games. We will also have weekly cricket coaching from Farouk.
RE - Christianity – The Church: Children will learn about Christian churches, their features and uses, and how symbols and community reflect values.
PRSHE - Being my Best: Children will learn what being healthy means; how hygiene, daily routines, medicines, and support from adults help them stay healthy.
Music - Contrasting Dynamics: Developing knowledge and understanding of dynamics using instruments; learning to compose and play rhythms to represent planets.
Art - Art is usually alternated with DT, but this term we are taking part in an Art project – Mrs Govender will be sharing the exciting details about this soon!
The following subjects continue over Summer 1 and Summer 2:
History - What is a monarch? Understanding the role of a monarch and how it has changed over time; identifying the purpose, structure and evolution of castles.
Geography - What can you see at the coast? Children will learn to locate and describe the seas, oceans and coasts of the UK using maps and compass directions. They will identify physical and human coastal features and how people use them.
We started this term's PRSHE by discussing ways to stay healthy, as well as exploring people who keep us healthy too.

In Science, we sorted and followed classification keys to identify different minibeasts.

In Music, the children enjoyed making soundscapes linked to Space. Before creating our own, we enjoyed exploring what soundscapes were using this website. https://soundscape.world/
In English, we've loved reading the start of The Tale of Peter Rabbit! We've been introduced to Mr McGregor! The children read and sorted statements about Mr McGregor based on true or false.

In Maths, we've been learning about linked calculations i.e. if 4 + 3 = 7, 7 - 4 = 3.

In English, we've enjoyed reciting and innovating the Little Peter Rabbit nursery rhyme, to include different vegetables taken from Mr McGregor's vegetable patch!
In PE, we enjoyed our first cricket session with Farouk!

In RE, we've been learning about features of churches and what they might be used for.

Art - We're excited to be taking part in the National Gallery's 'Take One Picture' project. We were introduced to this year's artwork bit-by-bit and wrote questions about the artwork. We will now collaborate to create our own piece of artwork based on the main piece of artwork which will be shared at the Art Exhibition in June! The children were so excited to share their predictions of what they thought each part of the art was.

In Science, we explored how scientists ask questions. We asked our own questions about worms, and then set up our own investigation to find out 'What do worms do to the soil?"

We've begun our art project by painting, printing and colour mixing our background. We will be creating an ocean and woodland scene - this was based on children asking where was the muse in the original painting from, and some believing she is the queen of nature. The children thought carefully about colour, revisiting our Autumn learning of tone and shades.

We finally got around to being able to complete our Bunny Run! Wow wow wow! The perseverance, enjoyment and speed the children showed was incredible!!

Exploring half and whole turns in Maths.

For this week's Art, we practised wrapping, weaving and plaiting to create seaweed and trees. This was based on some children suggesting the muse on the original artwork had 'seaweed hair'.

In RE, we've continued to explore churches and created our own churches. We were then able to talk about what we'd created.

A wonderful cross, with its explanation of what it might represent to Christians... and one proud friend!

In Art, we drew sea creatures. We began by studying different sea creature drawings, practised sketching our own and then chose our favourite to draw for our project.

Another cricket session with Farouk in PE! The children enjoyed playing a simple cricket game, now thinking about hitting a ball and running.

In Science, we carried out an experiment... do woodlice prefer damp or dry conditions? We sequenced the method last week, and wrote the results this week. Can you remember what happened?
